Any suggestions for somewhere really lovely for a 25th anniversary holiday? Somewhere with a beach, some sightseeing, some good food?
Warm enough for swimming. Not all inclusive, i prefer SC.
DH was thinking the likes of Amalfi coast/Pompeii, but im not sure if thats VERY sightseeing with no chill time at the beach.
Also thinking Greece but crikey almighty help me pick a place?
Im totally bamboozled.
Any suggestions or tell me where you went if you did?

San Sebastián
perfectly formed beach, fabulous food too.

What’s your budget? The Amalfi coast has some extraordinarily beautiful hotels that cost a fortune. But you won’t be disappointed.

See Hotel Caruso for an example.

Doteycat · 27/04/2025 12:36

Beautiful hotel, but a bit too stuffy for me and Id rather not spend that much.
Budget is up to 10k Euros, 2 weeks if poss. I dont mind driving around a few places so long as there are some beach/pool days in between.
Not looked at Sebastian before but I will!

Malaga ?

Chewbecca · 27/04/2025 12:42

That's good, I love the Med in September.

How about Corsica? A week in 2 different places? Maybe Porto Vecchio and Calvi.

notatinydancer · 27/04/2025 12:42

WRT to ‘VERY’ sightseeing, you can do as much or as as you like?

I get that, I just meant it seems a kind of on the go type of holiday, but maybe not? Im not sure what i mean, i think maybe Amalfi isnt a fly and flop vibe, but i dont want that fully either.
See my dilemma? I dont know what i want!

Another vote for San Sebastian. Can't beat it for food in the old town and the fabulous La Concha beach.

Another favourite of mine for food and a great buzz, is Bologna. But it's not as chic as San Sebastian and no beach either.

Cannes, Mougins and anywhere along the Cote d'Azur. Pricey but very nice.

I prefer the Ligurian coast in Italy to the Amalfi, which is completely overrun now, but then again I contributed to that myself in the past so no judgement!

Last stop, the amazing little city of Padua, train to Venice takes half an hour. It is one of my favourite places in Italy, apart from...... well millions of others lol. 😊

Chewbecca · 27/04/2025 12:48

I wouldn't go to San Sebastian if I wanted sea swimming?

JustAquaMentor · 27/04/2025 12:54

San Sebastian for me too. Two beaches to choose from (one calm enough for swimming the other great for surfing), amazing food and lovely people.
Make sure you visit the old town for a pintxos bar crawl!

IncaAztec · 27/04/2025 13:01

Luxor with a visit to Cairo to see the pyramids? Some great hotels and temples/Nile/hot hair ballooning??

Doteycat · 27/04/2025 13:05

Dont fancy Egypt at all sorry!
Sea swimming is important to us both if possible.
I dont think the Cote dAzur cld be counted on for weather that late in the season could it? been to langeudoc that time of year and it rained all week!

Palma, Mallorca

Somewhere like Monterosso al Mare on the Cinque Terre is a good balance of beach and sightseeing. There are two sandy beaches in the town, and it’s close to the most gorgeous town of Vernazza.

Tummybanana · 27/04/2025 13:46

We went to Split in Croatia. The name amused our childish senses of humor and it was gorgeous. There is a swimming beach albeit not the prettiest but you can get boat trips to the Blue Lagoon.

Cefaju, Sicily. Lovely old town, great restaurants . It’s easy to as much or as little as you want.

MinnieMountain · 28/04/2025 06:01

Alghero in Sardinia.

Totally agree. Caribbean quality beaches on the east coast. Bonifacio is a great day out. French food.

https://www.ischiabluresort.com/en/ get the Hydrofoil from Naples. I didn't want to leave. Full kitchen and washing machine etc but daily cleaning and a breakfast room / bar. Port within 5 mins walk. Ischia is beautiful. Easy to do a boat trip to Sorrento or Capri / Procida or add on some days in Naples for Pompeii/Herculaneum.

Some good ideas above. I’ve had wonderful weather in Portugal in September previously. Either caiscais near Lisbon or splurge on one of the fancier algarve resorts. I always find Portugal better value than other countries in Europe.

i’d fancy Amalfi too but never been
