Places to go

I am a mum to two young adults. I don’t like flying so my max time on a plane is 3 hours. For the last 3 years we have managed to get affordable villas in Spain near Alicante/Murcia with pools. We need a holiday in the sun that can accommodate us as boring older adults, but also accommodate the young adults. Can anyone recommend places to go. I have found the area mentioned above the only affordable area. I’d appreciate any ideas, thanks

Try a Greek island, Corfu is nearest and seems to fit the bill. Majorca also has several nice resorts and loads of accommodation options.

Do you mean you are looking for places with a lot of night life / clubs etc ?

We have stayed in the following places with DS and his GF from their late teens to early 20s, but we all tend to go for a meal early evening with them maybe staying out a bit later in bars, or we all just chill at our accommodation in the evening. So these places may not be any good if it’s lively night life you are after.

Alvor (Portugal), Puerto Pollensa (Majorca), Nerja (Spain) and we will be going to Lake Garda this summer. Also stayed at Torremolinos over New Year. we’ve rented apartments with shared pool or villa with pool. We thought that accommodation in Puerto Pollensa was expensive for what it was.

I’m the same as you with regards flying @Notsoyoungones!

I find the Balearics more expensive than mainland Spain for eating out and accommodation.

If you can bear flying as far as Malaga, which is under 3 hours as long as you're no further north than Leeds/Manchester etc, that opens up a lot of options, eg the aforementioned Torremolinos, also Benalmadena, Fuengirola etc.

Or in and around the city itself. Public transport in the area is good so you can travel around easily without needing a car as long as you're in walking distance of a population centre. Or a little inland is likely to be cheaper for accommodation and eating out.

Eg we stayed in Alhaurin de la Torre for a walking holiday and there were regular buses to Malaga, less frequently to a few other places or you could pick up the train that went up and down the coast. Young adults might like the massive outdoor shopping complex (Plaza Mayor) that had lots of Spanish and international brands, restaurants etc.

Or fly to Girona, Barcelona or Reus, lots of choice on the Costa Brava and Costa Dorada, you could have a day trip to Barcelona.

There's also things like water parks and Port Aventura the area which is an Alton Towers type place but I don't know anything about it because it's absolutely not my thing at all.

But I agree Portugal might be worth a look, it's often mentioned as a lower cost destination, I've only ever been to Lisbon for a city break but that certainly was my experience, it seemed good value.

I’d say Malaga itself. There’s a big beach which seems popular with Spain people, then plenty in the city for your young adults.
