Would you cancel the trip if airbnb property might be for sale

We booked a very special airbnb for a trip over Christmas itself. It’s booked out for busy periods over a year in advance.

Very sadly the airbnb host passed away. Her relative who lives in another country said she plans to keep running the rental for now, but as our booking is over Christmas, she wanted to give us lots of warning as it might be for sale/sold. But currently not planning on selling.

We looked for alternatives and there’s already nothing we like. So if we couldn’t stay at the airbnb we’d probably cancel the trip. What would you do?

Just buy the property if it comes on the market. Problem solved.

I'd cancel and find somewhere else. Wouldn't take the risk.

Hmm. I’m going to put my holiday lodge in the market after this season. But I would cut off the rental available and make sure to time it so the current bookings go ahead. But I understand they may have to pay inheritance tax which would require selling before Christmas. As there’s no alternative why not keep the booking until it’s certain they have sold it? Then if they don’t you can use it. It doesn’t seem you will miss out if you have to cancel closer to the date anyway if no other option.

Is the trip special purely because of the AirBnB being special, or is there a particular reason you want to be away next Christmas? (ie anniversary, large family gathering) Or are you away every year and this year decided to go for a special place? I think that kind of info would factor into my decision rather than just the possibility of a sale as I agree with above - if there's nothing else you want to book then there's not particular benefit to cancelling now rather than waiting to see what happens.
