This is our first trip to Mexico and we do like relaxing at the pool and beach but we are not huge sunbathers. As long as ive got my brolly and a book i like to chill that way. We do want to see a bit of the area, safety permitting. Happy to walk places, we love any type of food and activities just not anything major like rock climbing 😂 if you can give us some places to go.

I'm a bug attracting person and do get bitten in the UK especially horse flies! What repellant is recommended that is possibly deet free?

I had read a couple of reviews that they took humidity pouches for their wardrobes, is that really necessary? Our hotel is part of a 4 complex and we are in the jungle part at bits (i know, I'm stupid!)

Anyone i know who's been, have been either on a sunbed toasting for 2 weeks or at Coco Bongos 😆 so they are no help!

I don’t know about that hotel but as long as the majority of reviews are positive I’d ignore the negative ones. In a large hotel with a high turnover there will always be the odd hiccup. I don’t think the mozzies will be worse from one hotel /area to another to be honest. The whole country is a bit hot, humid, jungley and water so there will be mozzies.

I have on occasion left a negative review for hotels, and on reading the positive ones for the same period, wondered how low some people's standards are! For example, I recall one hotel - I am not remotely a fussy eater, but the "hot" food was literally inedible, tasteless, and lukewarm /reheated to the point that it was a swamp of potential bacterial and foodborne contamination. British tourists were shovelling it down like they had never seen food, the number of digestive issues that people had whilst there was ridiculous, and yet the reviews of the food described it as plentiful (it was) and tasty / excellent. When in the hotel (didn't eat there often for that reason) I stuck to salads which I re-washed where possible to ensure that the water used was clean!

I think I would recommend a balanced view of reviews, especially since I have been in some where the entertainment teams main day time job seemed to be coercing hapless tourists to leave positive reviews whilst they watched.

@PhilippaGeorgiou

Yes, you're right. I wasn't thinking straight.

It's Coba I meant.

OP we are there the 10th June! I've not been to the SK resort before but have been to Mexico loads, different times of year and yes it may rain a little but it is relaxing and just a wonderful place.
There are a few FB pages with loads of information, tips etc.
I take jungle spray and wear it over my sunscreen, all day/night. I get bit to shit so also wear the bands.
Early mornings are fab but under the umbrella by 11am, out again around .30.
I have never bothered with the humidity bags, it's the tropics, you're in the jungle it's to be expected. It will probably smell a little too but that is part of the joy of being away.
Mexico is fab, do Coba, Akumal etc and other ruins are quite far away but absolutely worth the trip, hope you have the best time.

Also get the BP app, you can check in and you can book restaurants etc 10 days.

I think even at Coba they’ve now stopped people climbing the pyramids. You could when we went but that was 6 years ago.
