Summer 25 - Holiday ideas please

Hello!

We’re looking to go away for the summer and would like to go long haul. Dd is 15 & Ds is 12.

Our only criteria is that we stick to areas that have an A&E nearby as my son has Asthma and we’ve had some stressful situations abroad in the past.

Would quite like to do a multi city break maybe?

Does anyone have some good ideas please?

Canada? You could do several different cities (Toronto,Vancouver, Calgary for instance), and some of the national parks, depending on how long you were going for.

I would also recommend Canada, you don’t want to go somewhere too hot (as this can worsen asthma symptoms) and Canada generally has good air quality, especially outside of its cities. Medical treatment is good but also expensive so it is important to have full comprehensive health insurance, which we lucky had. Places to visit (besides those mentioned above) include Quebec City, Montreal, the Rocky Mountains and Niagara Falls.

True, but given that it's not just a pre-existing condition but an ongoing one, OP probably won't be able to get travel insurance that covers treatment for her son's asthma attacks.

The GHIC also gives free treatment in Australia (the UK and Australia have had a reciprocal healthcare deal for visitors that goes back quite a few years, but the GHIC makes access to it easier). But Australia is really long-haul.

Kuala Lumpur and Penang/Georgetown are nice at that time of year.

Canada flights can get very busy.

You just need any well developed country and this rules out a lot of the more exciting places. Why long haul? You could try South Africa. Good medical services available but not in remote national parks.

Japan?

Long haul but not too bad like Australia. Very good hospitals and your never too far from next city on train.

Thank you all some great ideas ! I’ll look into these further.

Long haul - Just fancy somewhere a bit different especially as the children are getting older. Very conscious that we don’t have that many summer holidays together (dd is 15) want to make the most of the time we have.

Thanks again!

What about northern US states, Oregon, or Washington. Seattle could add some city break stuff and you could also get up to Vancouver if you fancied. I'm sure someone posted on Oregon on here before and said how fab it was. Depends what you like doing really. Outdoorsy stuff is easy to find

~Edit to say it won't be too hot. Japan is so humid at that time, although a fantastic trip and would be my first world/exotic location, pick of the bunch

Agree. Japan is fairly horrible in the summer. North West Pacific coastal areas of the USA would be much nicer. Whales around too hopefully!
