Anyone ever flown on Vueling?

Jetting out of Gatwick next Tuesday to Rome, has anyone ever flown on Vueling before? What is it like? Are the seats comfortable for larger passengers?

thanks

It's an A320 series plane like any other on a low-cost airline (Vueling is the low-cost arm of Iberia) like any other. You can check the seat dimensions and pitch here https://www.aerolopa.com/vy-320-1 but it's not going to be more than 1 or 2cm more than Easyjet or Ryanair because they need to fit 6 seats and a drinks trolley into the same space.

Should the opportunity arise to mention the name of the airline, if you want to score a small kudos point with the crew, it rhymes with "dwelling" and not with "refuelling". The crews seem to be pretty friendly but someone at marketing has decided to be cute, so that for example the sick bags say "If you've got more than butterflies in your stomach", ha ha ha.

Should you get peckish, the tortilla (Spanish omelette) that they sell is delicious, warm or cold.

Flew it about 10 years ago and thought it was good for a budget airline.

Flew with Vueling once . Never again as staff were awful . Maybe a one- off but have never used them again .

lalafox · 23/04/2025 21:49

Used them loads as I live in Spain. No issues with them. Great airline

thickandcreamy · 23/04/2025 22:20

Have flown with them a few times, no issues at all. I am a size 20 and had plenty of room on seat and with seat belts .

minipie · 24/04/2025 09:22

Used several times, iirc it’s very similar to Easyjet in terms of seats etc

More space than Ryanair in my memory. Flew to Valencia in September with Ryanair and back with Vueling.

The thing about these low cost airlines is that they are low cost for a reason. Complex check in instructions, need to print your boarding pass, luggage extra, small seats BUT they are almost always full. I laugh when I see people say that they will never fly with (insert low cost airline name!). Do you think they care? The Ryanairs of this world are cheap and cheerful.

I would avoid because if they are cheap with everything does that include their training. If you were a fab pilot would you want to work for say Emirates or Ryanair?

But other people have no such concerns.

On many European routes, there isn't a choice of traditional airlines any longer. You don't need to print your boarding pass on Vueling (nor do you on any other budget airline I've flown in the last five years).

The airline itself is fine. I'd choose Easyjet over Vueling, but Vueling over Ryanair or Wizz.

Regarding the pilots, I don't think that's a thing. A lot of pilots, eg those with small children, don't want to fly long haul so would much prefer to work for easyJet than Emirates. Any airline that is allowed to land in Europe has good safety standards, including training.

Flew with Vueling last week. No issues with the aeroplane at all, but they did manage to lose our luggage on the way out (delivered to us 22 hrs later) and had overbooked our return so tried to insist one of our party stay in an airport hotel and fly the following day.

Lindy2 · 24/04/2025 20:16

We flew to Rome with them a year ago from Gatwick.

Everything was absolutely fine. Flights were comfortable and on time.

You check yourselves in using screens but there were staff there supervising and helping where needed.

I'd happily use them again.

Who’s printing boarding passes? It couldn’t be a more straightforward check in process either, what makes you think that?

No issues with the pilots either, what a very unusual way to think!

There is no such thing as a "fab pilot". In fact it's when pilots start to think they're "fab" that the problems start. (See #t=13s 😂)

Airlines spend millions on training and certification. Ryanair and Easyjet are ranked first and second for passenger safety in the world (deaths per billion passenger km flown) — neither has ever had a fatality, and Ryanair only pips Easyjet because it's bigger and so zero is being divided by a bigger number. Airlines have to jump through all sorts of hoops to keep their approval to fly in the UK or the EU, and they don't do that by letting pilots knock off training early or have a beer during the lunch break.

Ryanair also has one of the best-maintained fleets because they buy new planes, don't keep them for very long, and have first dibs on the Boeing 737 maintenance facility at Stansted. This also means they ex-Ryanair planes are in demand on the second-hand market, which also makes money for them.

One of the best channels on YouTube is Mentour Pilot, run by a Swedish training captain who goes into the history of aviation accidents and explains how they happened and what the industry then does to stop the same thing happening again. I was never a very apprehensive flyer, but since watching that channel I have become even less concerned, because it teaches you how and why flying is so safe. And he's a pilot for Ryanair.
