Hi, I have found a relatively cheap flight to Mucia for yhe October half term for me, my husband and twin daughters (15) but we’ve not been to this area before and wondered if anyone had any recommendations on where we could stay? We’d like to be close to the beach, with restaurants and shops in walking distance but beyond that we’re pretty flexible 😊

There is the city of Murcia which is fabulous or the beach resort area. I haven’t been to the later but the city is worth a visit if you go to the beach resort.

Thank you, is there anything specific you’d recommend doing in the city?

Just a great city for wandering around, pretty much pedestrianised in the centre, authentically Spanish. There's the cathedral, parks and the Real Casino Del Murcia which was more of club where genteel people of quality would meet in the 19th century. Lovely interiors.

If you're flying into RMU then the beach resorts of the Mar Menor are all easily accessible. There is a train that runs up to Murcia city or if you're hiring a car it'll take you about 30 minutes. October is generally a stunning time of year here. If you use Facebook there are several pages for things to do locally. It depends what kind of things you want. Murcia and Cartagena are full of history, none of the beach resorts are large, Los Alcazeres has a lovely seafront promenade where you can hire bikes or just wander from one cafe con leche to the next. If you head up to Lo Pagan you can walk for 2.5 km out to the windmill at the end of the breakwater. You'll pass mud baths, complete with flamingos (Not plastic inflatable ones!) and other interesting birds. There's a very relaxed vibe, if that's what you're after. There's also quite a large retired ex pat community so you'll find a lot of English being spoken (whether that's what you're after or not!)
