Hi all - looking to take my 4 year old away this summer but want to avoid a plane. He is fine in the car though so we want to try a drive to France maybe? We love Center Parcs and places that have a pool and playground. He has additional needs so we need to be kept busy! Can anyone recommend any resorts or locations that would be good for us please? Thank you

Hi, I don’t have any specific recommendations but have you looked at Eurocamp or Canvas campsites? Always plenty to do with swimming pools and playgrounds. Alternatively, we stayed at a Sandaya campsite just outside Paris two years ago, it was a company we’d not heard of before but it was really lovely and would recommend them.

There is a CP at De Haan on the Belgian coast which is under one hour from Calais. Huge sandy beaches and there's a Sealife place and Plopsaland near by. You can rent bikes and go-carts on the prom.

Definitely look at Centre Parcs Europe.

Duinrell in the Netherlands is fantastic in terms of things to do onsite. Easy to get to via ferry or Euro tunnel

A ferry crossing to the Netherlands might suit you as an alternative to France. Fastest crossing from Harwich, daytime or overnight. There are a plethora of holiday parks with various facilities (Landal, Roompot, Center Parcs, etc) and much smaller country to navigate. Or if length of drive isn't an issue you could cross to neighbouring countries. I haven't stayed but previously looked at Beekse Bergen safari park in Holland that looked pretty good as a resort for younger kids. Ter Spegelt also looked good. I've stayed at a nice Landal resort in the east that had big soft play, clip n climb, lake, playground, trampoline park, pool with slides. I'd recommend having a look at the bigger holiday park websites and filtering on what is most important, get a short list and plan travel from there. Most have parks across various European countries so you could search all countries in one go.

Edited to add Efteling is a really lovely fairytale themed themepark you could possibly include a trip too. You can stay on site but you don't need too.
