What Alps resort will suit us for a summer holiday?

Looking for something that meets our requirements for summer holidays 2026 - two adults plus 17yo and maybe 19yo:

  • Austrian or Swiss Alps
  • Easy transfer from Geneva, Munich or Zurich
  • Easy access to hikes, mountain peaks via cable car, other outdoor activities etc - if we could do it all by public transport that would be perfect
  • Amazing mountain views
  • Decent self catering accommodation
  • a chilled vibe but still has restaurants and shops etc
  • (this might be the hardest) not overrun with crowds in July/August

On our radar are Zell am See and Saalbach but bit worried about crowds, have read Zell am See is particularly busy in summer.

Any recommendations please for town and accommodation??

@Melon2312 The big Tour Operators - Crystal, Nielsen, Inghams etc - have summer Lakes and Mountains programmes and they organise everything for you too.

DIY to the Alps is also easy enough - fly to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Geneva, Lyon etc. then a taxi/shuttle transfer or public transport to the resort. Hotels booked through websites like Booking.com or direct with the hotels (which they prefer) or apartments booked through airbnb, VRBO or the local tourist offices. If you don't want to fly, most resorts in France and Austria are within around 12 hours of Calais. There are also night trains from Paris.

Thanks, I’ll check out those companies as well
