Travel organiser / hanging shelves

Is anyone able to recommend me some very lightweight hanging shelves I can take in my suitcase? I don’t particularly want them for organising my clothes within the suitcase for the journey but for hanging over the door and putting T shirts/ underwear/ sweaters in whilst I’m there.

I’ve just looked again at some accommodation we’ve booked for next year and there are only very short hanging rails in the bedroom, no drawers. We are there for 3 weeks so don’t really want to be living out of suitcase for all of that time.

Could you use packing cubes?

Do you know, I was just thinking this would be a great idea. So many hotels have mostly hanging space when shelves or drawers would be much better.

this looks good although you may find cheaper?

Thanks @minipie- I imagine that one is quite good quality but it is a bit heavier than I was hoping for. There are a few different ones on Amazon but I’ve no idea as to quality and most don’t give their weights.

Thanks - but not the same thing.

I think they're designed to hang from a clothes rail, so you'd have to rig up something to hang it from a door.

Argos do a short one and long one.

Try looking in Ikea as they always show the weight of their products.

Packing cubes work great for this.

I just undo and leave T-shirts, underwear in them at the bottom of wardrobe on shelf, or on shelf or desk. Hang jumpers

We often move ever few days so then it’s super fast packing. Just zip back up and half is already packed

Ikea do a few, with different dimensions. And show the weights.

Are you looking specifically at travel ones? They seem to be wider than domestic versions.

i can see that these would be useful if you are touring and have shelf space - but I’ve got the opposite situation. Only bedroom furniture is bedside cabinet and a hanging rail - and we are staying for 3 weeks. Really should have looked closer before booking - no wonder the rooms looked nice and uncluttered!

Thank you @zzpleb- that’s really helpful. The ikea style ones were what I had in mind originally but I was wondering if the travel specific ones would be lighter - and I can see from the one that you have linked, it looks extremely lightweight. May have a look at one of each.

The ikea ones (and a lot of others) have a closed fabric loop at the top, so no good for putting over a fixed hotel rail. You need one with hooks at the top rather than a fabric loop.

I think some of them have velcro fastening on the hanging loops, but good point and worth checking.

The reviews suggest that the one I was looking at has Velcro . I was thinking of trying to attach it to a coat hanger so it takes up less space on the rail.

Ahh velcro!! That would make a lot more sense 😆

I had no idea the travel specific ones existed. What a brilliant idea! Pack in that, open your suitcase, hang that up & job done. Game
changer! I feel like I need to
buy one (or three so my kids have one each too).

Just to update this thread - I bought Hongmeru Portable Hanging Travel Shelves £7.99 from Amazon and they are brilliant. Four shelves approx a foot square and big enough to hold my underwear, T shirts, leggings, fleece etc. They are lightweight and fold to around an inch depth to go in my suitcase.

Where I’m staying, the hanging poles on the wall are wide enough to add the hanging shelves next to the clothes hangers. But it would also be possible to put the clips over a coat hanger so they could go at right angles to the rail or on the back of a door.

Sorry I can’t link but my Amazon account shows my name and I’m not sure if this will copy across.
