Rome

Can anyone recommend Airbnbs or Hotels in Rome? We are planning to go for 3-4 nights late summer.

Also is that enough time for Rome?

Many thanks

Home and More Rome Apartments were pretty good. Stayed about 6 metro stops from the centre. The team was very responsive and met us on time.

Bear in mind that it's a Papal Jubilee year and accommodation will be if not hard to find then hideously expensive.

How big do you need? I stayed here with a friend in March:

I'd wait until next year @PalmTreeAngel . It's bonkers busy in summer then in the last two weeks of August the Italians leave for their holiday, which means a lot of businesses close. It gets ridiculously hot in Rome during late summer, 40°C and over. (Been there, done that) Add to that the Papal Jubilee year aspect, I just wouldn't go.

Try early Spring 2026, which will be when the celebrations end and you'll be far more comfortable too.

We recently returned from a trip to Rome. I will try and add the link for our air b&b. Great location and lovely apartment.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 15/04/2025 06:50

Also of you want to see the sea, take a cab or bus to Porto San Paulo station (not far from The Pyramid) and take the Rome-Lido Line to Lido di Ostia. As it's included in the Rome Metropolitan area tickets are on €1.50 rach, each way. The beaches are private so you must pay for your spot but it's a nice day out.

We stayed here in trastevere, it was lovely

4 nights is a good start, but you could go for 6 months and it wouldn't be enough 😂

Stay centrally, and then you can walk everywhere. But avoid staying near the central railway station.

Alberto del Senato is a nice, slightly old-fashioned hotel, overlooking the Pantheon.

Book the Colosseum/Forum (joint ticket), Vatican Museums and Borghese Gallery at least 4 weeks in advance.

pinkhousesarebest · 15/04/2025 17:34

We came back last night. Stayed in a lovely place in Trastevere, beside the embassies which was so leafy and peaceful but just a few minutes to bars etc. Loved it. The hotel was called Domus Monami.

Equimum · 15/04/2025 20:34

No recommendations of location (we got that completely wrong!), but we've just done Roma and I would definitely recommend it as a spring break - nice weather, but not too hot for sight seeing. I also second booking things well in advance. We got Attica tickets for the Colloseum and it was so worth it. They only allow 150 people a day up there and the view down is incredible.

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 15/04/2025 20:50

Had 4 nights there last week! Yes it was busy but as long as you are prepared for that and pre book tickets for the Vatican and Colleseum etc. it's fine.
We stayed in the Best Western Universo which was about a 20 minute walk from the main centre.
We loved it.

Decorhate · 15/04/2025 23:08

I've stayed here a couple of times, more a guest house than a hotel but very central.

Got back yesterday - the rest of this week will be crazy then back to usual busy levels (ie mostly super busy). Rome gets v hot, so closer to summer, the less walking-all-day friendly it is, if that's a consideration. 4 days is fine, you can't see everything, but you'll do the major sights and be too knackered to do much more walking anyway.

Other posters are seeing to suggest it’s okay?
I understand it’s best to avoid peak summer time. I was thinking end of Aug or even September.

I work in mental health, so I really do need a break to keep me sane.

Hotel Santa Maria in Trastavere was lovely when we went a few years ago.

FrothyCothy · 16/04/2025 01:01

We recently stayed at Demetra Hotel - simple, clean, friendly staff, found the location fine for getting to everywhere we wanted to see.

There’s a very helpful thread here OP https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k15059196-The_Jubilee_Year_is_here_but_should_I_wait_until_2026-Rome_Lazio.html

I’d say you’re fine so long as you’re not doing the Vatican stuff. I went in March for the third time. Apart from renovation works, Rome didn’t feel any busier than previous visits.

Thank you @AchillesAndPatroclus
We haven’t booked anything yet, but my husband and I are probably going to sit down this Easter weekend and have a look at dates. It’s like a belated honeymoon for us as we recently got married.
