Wet day in Florence, just me - what would you do?

I'm in Italy for a week, staying in Lucca but going to Florence for a few days by train. Except its really wet for the next few days and I haven't booked anything because I'm old and you didn't use to have to, plus I get overwhelmed every time I think of it.

Please can you suggest lesser /niche things to see and do, not the big Tourism stuff? I like history and the Romans; I love ancient shops untouched since the 1930's, and junk shops or flea markets. Given the weather, undercover please, although I'm happy doing lots of meandering to get places. If its a bit unusual or even weird, I'm interested.

Thank you!

Uffizi Uffizi Uffizi, don’t care if it’s a touristic hot spot, or you’ve been before, just go. Also many many churches to visit, have a drink in a swish hotel, or a lovely square under an umbrella- sit in and have a gelato, just soak it all up!

Convent of San Marco. Full of Fra Angelico frescos. Wonderful!

The Accademia obviously but it has the most wonderful historical musical instrument collection.

Basilica of Santa Croce too: Galileo's tomb and so much more.

Wonderful place.

Uffizi until my feet fell off, not having to worry about a partner or kids.

Oh, this great! Thank you! I have looked at old threads and booked the Medici Palace for Thurs, loving some of these for Tuesday. Costume museum and the Florence as it used to be museum both really appeal.

I know I should go to the Uffizzi but I just can't face the queues and the booking and the tour groups and, basically, all of it. But these more offbeat ideas have me excited, keep 'em coming!

I went to Florence on my own at easter once in my 20s. It was warm and wet. I sat under an outdoor umbrella, drank red wine and read my book. Not a museum but I had a lovely afternoon.

Have a look at an app called Get Your Guide which will allow you to book tickets. If you wanted a walking tour of some kind ( eg a small group foody tour) you could also look at With Locals.

You can book a time slot , early or late is best

The Medici Palace is great - we were there in full summer when queues for the Uffizi were mental, but the Medici was quiet and enthralling.

I went to Florence during torrential storms and ended up walking around every church and museum wondering at the renaissance art within them!

I went with my DD in Feb and she was keen to do a pasta and tiramisu making class. I thought it would be not that interesting but it was great. I learned a lot (and I'm already a pretty good cook), they offered us sparkling wine throughout the lesson and everyone sat down together to eat what we had made at the end, which was a lot of fun (although I guess it depends who else has signed up).

And the costume museum was great.
