Going abroad while pregnant

Might seem like a silly question but we are ttc baby 3 and wanting to book a holiday for July. My previous pregnancy’s were high risk (pre eclampsia, uncontrolled GD, a blood clotting disorder, IUGR and prem birth 33weeks). Are you able to get travel insurance for high risk pregnancies. Not sure if we should put the holiday or the ttc on hold. Any experiences would be much appreciated.

Travel insurance for standard pregnancies singleton baby seem to be no issue. I just flew 32 week pregnant. Lots of clauses saying they don’t cover any issues out of normal low risk pregnancies eg associated medical emergencies coming from high risk pregnancies. So they would cover baby being born (my insurance did) but not any other twiddly bits. It was quite get out of jail for the insurers!

Can't you just put ttc off for three months?

With that background I would be careful to travel well before the viability limit as a pre-term birth abroad has awful consequences (being separated from the rest of your family for months if the baby is not well enough to travel home). Most of the other complications also arise later in pregnancy and it would certainly be more fun for you before GD develops and you have to carefully watch your diet. So I would time TTC carefully if you decide to book a trip.

I'd probably put off TTC for a few months as I'd hate to be in the first trimester and be travelling, the tiredness and nausea etc.

I take out insurance religiously anyway and try to be a super careful as possible when travelling. Does your current insurance have an option to upgrade for a selected period. What put my mind at rest was increasing the excesses for that period I was away :)

Travelling won’t change the outcome. Make sure you take out travel insurance as soon as you book and check T&C

you could not book holiday and then be TTC for 18 months.
