I find that the Post Office or Co-op Travel generally have the better rates. Your bank is usually the best rate, but charge lots in commission so might be best avoided. best thing to do is decide how much you are taking in sterling, how much as cash and how much as travellers cheques, then ask in a few different places the overall cost.

Also, take most as TC's as you can spend those like cash in the shops, if you take your passport, and they give you cash as change. Much safer, if you lose them you can get them replaced in less than 24 hrs usually.

We got some from Tesco Extra recently and they were the best rate we could find and didn't charge commission. Post office is also quite good.

I find that M & S are usually very good.

have you got a nationwide flex card, aparently this is the best way to spend money overseas. We have changed up a bit of money through M & S for bits and bobs, but the rest will go on the card (ours is a debit card)

WOw thanks-the link was really interesting. we were thinking of using our debit card but the charges are quite steep. traveller's checks may be a way to go cos they are covered if stolen. thanks guys!
