Rome - tickets for main attractions

WelcomeToBoycottCity · 07/04/2025 15:17

We’re going to Rome in a couple of weeks, and what with one thing or another, I haven’t booked any tickets to the different attractions. And I’m now struggling with working out which are the official websites for getting tickets.

So, please could you answer these questions for me:

  1. How easy is it to get tickets on the day?

  2. If I do manage to get tickets online, is it better to get combined entrance tickets eg Pantheon & Colosseum? Which is the best website to get the combined tickets?

  3. Any links to official websites are appreciated.

Thanks

Book whatever you can online in advance. It will be busy.

I used the official Italian tourist office site for the colesseum , then (pre Brexit) kids were €2 whereas the non official ones didn’t discount for children. I booked 3 months ahead though

Thanks, I am trying. I have managed to book the Basilica online so that’s out of the way!

Did you book access to climb the dome? That was really interesting.

Agree with PPs- book ahead. It can be very busy and you may have long queues.

Just get tickets in advance. You’ll thank yourselves! I’m not aware of a combined colosseum/pantheon ticket but others might be able to help.

I think these are the official sites.

Oh thank you for the links. I didn’t know about the musei Italiani website. I managed to get tickets for the pantheon, so I am very pleased. Thank you.

The Colosseum website looks like it’s only selling 7 days in advance - not sure though, so I will keep checking it.

No, as we are all a bit iffy about heights, tbh.

We booked everything in advance inc skip the queue options where available. The queues at the ticket offices/booths on the day are ridiculously long, especially at The Vatican. Having pre-booked skip the queue tickets mean you can go straight in and will save hours of time.

We are here now…booked both Vatican museum (inc Sistine Chaprl) and the colosseum, ( inc forum, palatine hill etc) with timed entrance. So glad we did the queues are pretty horrible looking…come Easter they will be a disaster I should imagine.
TrEvi fountain was completely mobbed yesterday … could barely see it! Best outings so far have been the parks. the weather is gorgeous

Normally you book Colosseum and the Imperial Forums together as they are adjacent although I don’t think you necessarily need to visit on same day, Vatican museum/Sistine Chapel can be booked direct and take an early or late slot to avoid worst of the crowds.

You’re welcome! The colosseum tickets for the arena are only on sale 7 days in advance. But if you don’t want to go into the arena, you can book further ahead.

You can buy tickets further ahead than that with firms such as Viator that are either guided tours or just entry with audio guide, including the Arena.

Yes true! Although they do place quite a big mark up on them. I’ve also had bad experiences doing this with both Viatour and GetYourGuide - when they haven’t correctly booked me in and tickets had completely sold out (not in Rome but somewhere else). Personally I’d always use the official site if possible!
