Ryanair 'fast track' at Manchester

How fast actually is it....?

We are going on a 5.15pm flight on a Thursday and I am wondering how early I need to check in. We will have luggage. I have booked fast track (with 2 DCs aged 13 and 10). Also never been Ryanair so dreading it slightly but hopefully it's not that bad! Flight is only 2 hours...

Thanks

I'd expect FT on a Thursday evening to be pretty quick, especially if outside of school holidays. If you check in 2 hours before the flight, and drop bags using the weighing machines, I would think that should give you plenty of time to then get through security. You could probably do it in a fair bit less, but that all depends on your appetite for risk / excitement!

Rule of thumb is arrive 2 hours before flight departure, isn’t it? I’ve never gone wrong with this. Also, no need to dread Ryanair.

If you're talking about security fast track, that's nothing to do with Ryanair, that's for anyone flying from the airport. Sometimes it's much faster than standard, it's impossible to say. But I do think the airport is generally quieter mid afternoon, although it's rare I fly at that time to be sure.

I also agree there's no need to dread Ryanair, they're fine.

Biggest time saver I found when travelling with them recently was to have the app. I got to the luggage drop off where the man asked me if I had the app, which I didn't so he directed me to a massive queue. I stood there for a few minutes and looked at the 'app' queue, which was much shortere and people were scanning and printing their own luggage tags. So I downloaded the app, signed up, and then moved to the other queue and used that to drop off my bag.

So in short, download their app so you'll be able to drop your luggage off much quicker.

For a flight at that time at Manchester, unless you're very local, you need to allow plenty of time to account for traffic, plus parking if you're driving, so I'd probably aim to get there by 3 pm at the latest.

You have nothing to worry about with Ryanair for as long as you have read fhe rules about baggage allowances etc which they communicate more than

Fast track for that time probably wasn’t necessary but no big deal.

You don’t have to take your laptops etc out now which helps but avoid wearing heavy boots or thick soled shoes/ trainers, wide leg jeans / trousers, belts, heavy jewellery etc
2 hours is plenty for a short flight

Have a lovely time ✈️

I fly a lot from Manchester often using Ryanair. Their check in is actually really good just make sure you have the app and the boarding passes downloaded on your phone. If you have an iPhone you can transfer them to apple wallet which is really useful.
As pp said the fast track security is nothing to do with Ryanair. You are unlikely to need them but now you’ve got them you might as well use them. It is unlikely to take more than 5-10 minutes to get through.
The main downfall with Ryanair from Manchester is it’s from terminal 3 which is absolutely rubbish for shops and places to eat.

WillItEverWork · 04/04/2025 11:48

Basically fast track now is a way to pay to bring a normal cabin bag on, rather than a small under seat.

So I wouldn’t rely on it been fast, been on 3 return tripes with Ryan air and the fast track queue was bigger than the none for boarding the plane.

if you want to fast track through security you need to purchase that separately from the airport

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2025 11:49

Ryanair isn't your issue on this.

The fact you have checked in luggage and are attempting a late go through on a Friday Eve security is.

Tbf, I've got to say security has only taken us 30mins the last few times we've done it - even at peak times - and that's without fast track. So you probably will be fine.

But.

As I say it's having to check in and then dash in. You don't know how long it will ultimately take to drop your bags.

I wouldn't be cutting it as fine as less than two hours for this reason. Too many variables and you still have to walk to your gate when you get through.

You don't know when you might hit it at a particularly bad time, that's the problem. You should be fine, but you can't guarantee it even with fast track.

If you are smart pack to go through security. Not everyone does and it drives me nuts. It's simple but still people are fuck wits about it.

Be ready when you get to security.

Liquids in the right clear see through bag, in your hand. Electricals in a bag ready to put in a tray in your hand. Boots off if you need to when you get to security. Coats and jackets already off. You don't want to fanny about when you get to security.

Pack wise and pack smart and it'll save you at least five minutes at security. Then grab your shit as quickly as possible. You can always pack it in your bag when you get to the gate.

I don't get the point of fast track to get on the actual plane - it just means you get on the plane first and sit in your pre allocated space, and then have to wait for longer on the actual plane! In reality you don't go anywhere until the last person is on the plane.

The fast track at the gate only worked well for Ryanair when they didn't do pre allocated seats.

Bjorkdidit · 04/04/2025 12:09

We need the OP to clarify whether she is talking about airport security fast track or Ryanair priority boarding which, as a PP says, is mainly used to get the second cabin bag, which probably doesn't apply if they're checking luggage.

For time of arrival at the airport, the flight duration and airline is irrelevant. I once nearly missed a 20 minute flight to the Isle of Man because I was in the security queue for over an hour.

Electricals and liquids stay in your bag at Manchester.

If you have them in a separate bag they tell you to put them back in your bag, ironically showing everything down.

This isn’t the case at Manchester T3 which hasn’t been refurbished

Definitely still not the case at all the terminals.
