Camping

I love the wilderness and getting back to nature. I'm very tempted to try camping this summer in a cheapish tent. I'm single with no kids so it would just be me. I also don't drove so would be taking the most simple of equipment. Are camping sites noisy as a rule? Are other campers judge on the size and calibre of other campers tents?

It really depends on the site, the pop up ones and independent ones seem more “anything goes” than the caravan club sites, which can be very proper with firm rules. Think if you want to be near a town, accessibility and getting around. There’s loads of options. Enjoy!

If you can go in the week I would recommend it, many camp sites are very different at the weekend. Went to a gorgeous site on the South Downs last summer, a total of 3 tents in an enormous field mid-week, rammed Friday night, completely different experience. You are at the mercy of your neighbours on a busy site (noise, dogs, music), so I would recommend going mid-week when it will be much less busy and far more ‘back to nature.’

Definitely agree with going midweek, I go camping alone, I do take the car but like to sites that have a walk into the nearest town for a wander.
Depending on how basic you wish to camp you can take it all with you or if you want a bit more comfort can you get a lift and back to the campsite?
It makes a big difference if you can stand up in a tent and have a comfy bed and chair.
You won't have to go far tbh, even a site 30 minutes away can feel miles from anywhere,.
One tip check on Google earth for things that could be noisy such as close roads, schools and big factories.
However train tracks seem to be fine and also hearing lions roar from a nearby safari park was quite interesting 😊
