Best French Campsites Suggestions?

Changeeman · 01/04/2025 20:04

Can anyone recommend their favourite northern France campsites?

We're looking for somewhere in Brittany, Normandy or Picardy.

Ideally on the coast, with great facilities for 1 toddler and 1 teen. Indoor and outdoor pools, playground/soft play, gaming areas, entertainment schedule etc

Price not really a deciding factor, we would like a modern chalet/lodge type accommodation rather than actual camping.

Any thoughts? 🤞🏻

Have a look at Bel Air at Landudec in Finistere. Haven't been for a while but used to love it

I think the best in terms of facilities are Les Mouettes and Domaine les Ormes.

Thank you! I'll check them out.

Have either of you heard of L'atlantique in Fouesnant?

I've not heard of it, but it looks like a good area, and much nearer the coast than Bel Air

Yes we stayed in L’Atlantique but it was now 12 years ago. Our children were then 8 and 5. Pool was lovely and I think they’ve refurbished the slides since. We mostly did beach, either the one by the site or we drove to Pointe de la Torche for bodyboarding. Concarneau was a nice day out.

Yellow Campsite in Luc sur Mer in Normandy

Thanks everyone! Can I ask in your experience is there a good mixture of children/teens on these kind of campsites?

My teen DS is worried he won't have anyone to hang out with!

If your teen doesn’t mind organised activities, there’s a great teen club at Le Cabellou Plage

Domaine des ormes is huge but has lots of facilities if you like that. If you want smaller we love les menuires in Carnac on Brittany south coast

We've booked! Super excited, managed to get a great deal on the ferry crossing too 🙌🏻

Any tips on what to pack in the car? Our "cottage" includes bedding and towels etc. Do you pack food and take it over? I'm not sure how well stocked the french supermarkets will be for my family's very British taste buds 😂

which site did you book?

I wanted to book Les Mouettes as it looked amazing but they didn't have availability for the week we wanted, it suggested L'atlantique as an alternative so we went with that one 🤞🏻

Berny Rivière (Le Croix du Vieux Point) is lovely.

Tips for packing - there's a useful thread here

We always raid the nearest supermarket as soon as possible. A lot of things will be familiar. Dizzying choice of cold meats and cheeses - try Comté and Cantal if you don't like strong cheeses.

In many you pack loose fruit and veg in bags then weigh and label them yourself in the fruit and veg department before putting them in the trolley - the system has pictures as well as descriptions, which I rely on a lot.

If you're big tea drinkers you may want to take your own loose tea/tea bags. Also tinned things like baked beans if they are a must.

Ive been there a few years back. It was a lovely site. The beach was gorgeous too.

L'atlantique in Fouesnant? (there are also a few further south with that name) I'm looking at that now and would love to hear what you thought, I am looking at August 2026. Our kids will be 11 and 13. Thanks!

yes, thats the one. Its probably 10 years since I went, but we really loved it.

The way to the beach is via a little nature reserve, and the beach was white sand and absolutely beautiful. We saw red squirrels on the campsite.
I really would like to go back to that bit of brittany.

Yes the one in Fouesnant was the one we visited. We thought it was great!

Brilliant location for exploring the beaches and countryside, the pool was great and heated indoor and outdoor, good poolside fast food available, organised activities for the kids (football tournaments, huge blow up slip and slide and rock climbing etc, and arts and crafts activities too), there's a bowling alley, free mini golf, and scooter/bmx track.

To add to this, the white sand beaches and coves were honestly stunning. We watched the most gorgeous sunset on the beach one evening, and I did a couple of runs from the site into Beg Meil and the scenery the whole way long the beach path was breathtaking.
