How much did Lapland cost you

Hi I'm looking at going Lapland for 4 nights with husband and 2 dc just before xmas (but back for xmas day). I'd ideally like a log cabin and to spend a night in an igloo, can anyone let me know how much you spent for this? Looking at holidays without igloo and a normal hotel the cost is coming in at over 5k which seems crazy for 4 nights. Also when is the best time to book please?

We booked 3 nights beginning of Dec 2 adults 4 kids for £7.2k including husky sled, reindeer sled and Santa visit

PlinkFizz · 01/04/2025 12:26

Go off peak. Its Christmas every day there. We went in March...tons of snow, no queues, more daylight and not as cold. It was the best holiday ever!!

Iknowaboutpopular · 01/04/2025 12:35

I think ours was about 6.5k. Early Dec, 2 nights 3 days, in 2019, booked through Santa Claus Trips. We stayed in Saariselka, saw santa and did husky and reindeer sleds. It's really magical.
But yes, we've got 6 kids so everything we do is pricey.

bugalugs45 · 01/04/2025 12:51

My brother , SIL & 1 child went early December last year so not school holiday time .
They had 5 days , 4 nights & paid approx £6.5k .
They are generally hard to please but both agreed it was faultless and worth every single penny , that was in a lodge included all meals , clothing and activities ( husky sled, snowmobiles , reindeer farm , the lot ! )
they wouldn’t hesitate to go again, it is a lot of money but its normally a once in a lifetime trip , but they described it as better than Disneyland. Every single moment was magical by all accounts .
they stayed in Northen lights village- and got to see them every night too

There are Facebook groups you can join where you can get loads of advice if you wanted to DIY the trip rather than use a travel company.
from what I’ve seen though the activities are expensive and there is a lot of stress waiting for flights to come out to get cheaper rates (not sure I could deal with the stress for the sake of saving a few hundred)!

We paid 5.5K 6 years ago for log cabin, full board, husky sled, sleigh ride through the forest, snow shoes, ice fishing and snow mobiles. That was for 2 adults and 2 kids. Best holiday ever, we were glad the children were tweens as the smaller children coped badly with the cold while on sleds and snow mobile trailers.

3.5k 4 nights 2 adults 1 child. Visited Santa’s secret forest. Did husky’s and reindeers as well

I’d love to do this but I’m the world’s biggest temperature wimp and I don’t think I’d cope

They give you the suits, thermals, socks and boots included in the packages. You honestly don't feel a thing. It was -22°c in the arctic circle when we were there and everyone snug as a bug. I worried about our 3 year old at the time but he was grand.

The only time I was cold was when it got to minus 27 and we were on snowmobiles in the forest. My body was warm but my face was cold. It's weird as the hairs up your nose and eyelashes freeze! It was the first time my phone camera wouldn't work because it was too cold. I had to keep warming it up in my armpit!

This is if you book via a package. We want diy to make it cheaper and had to buy our own. Only got it when riding the huskies

I did say that about packages if you read.

We went for a week and spent £3.5k, went on a ski trip to Ruka, but booked all the trips with the local tourist board. MUCH MUCH better value and an amazing holiday.

NowStartAgain · 01/04/2025 16:07

£2600 for 5 days, 4 nights incl. Santa, husky and reindeer trips. December but back for Christmas. That was 1 adult, 1child. No igloo type thing but we had the best time on that trip, fabulous memories.

I’d go again, but later in the season, like Feb/Mar, for a longer stay and a better deal. Facebook groups were really helpful for planning as you need to pick whereabouts in Lapland. It isn’t just one resort.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/04/2025 22:35

We spent almost this much for 8 people to the ascot Lapland 😆

sittinginachair · 01/04/2025 22:53

Went for a week in Feb. 2a and 2cStayed in an apartment, huskies, Santa, northern lights tour. £2.5k.

I went for 4 nights to Levi last December, booked a short break with Inghams full board but didn’t include any activities so booked them separately. We did Santa, huskies, Ice Karting, private sauna, Arcandia park, snowmobiles, fatbike hire and lots of sledging - it was brilliant. Me and my 4 boys age 20-10 cost just over 5k.

3.5k 4 nights 2 adults 1 child. Visited Santa’s secret forest. Did husky’s and reindeers as well

We did very similar. Two adults, one child.

4 nights air bnb. We went end of November and took the risk with school fines.

Did Santa's secret village, santa park, husky trip (wasn't great - was in the main santa villlage) reindeer farm (booked an external company and was brilliant)

Paid about £5k with flights, food, trips and shopping, car hire

We also went swimming at the Santa Spa sports centre, very good price would recommend.

Vitrolinsanity · 01/04/2025 23:08

We went for the day! £1500. Best day of my life!

SilvieBear · 01/04/2025 23:15

@Vitrolinsanityhow did you do the day trip? Intrigued by this..! And was that £1500pp?

Peccary · 02/04/2025 18:12

We spent about 3k for a week (2A, 1C) in feb half term all booked independently and a bit last minute. Split time between Lulea in Sweden and Levi Finland with a day trip to Rovaniemi. This included 5 days car hire (done in Sweden, way cheaper) husky ride and a ski lesson in Levi. We also just did lots of skating and sledging. No glass igloos though.

Kitted me and daughter out from Vinted and several trips to decathlon

turtletum · 07/04/2025 17:09

Like a PP, we've booked a week ski holiday to Ruka with Crystal, 5k for a family of 4 for a full week in Feb half term. Then just book the huskies/snowmobile/santa trips as extras. It felt better value to do a full week for the same price as 3 days, with more relaxation time.

With Canterbury Travels.

It’s an early start (earlier for us as we flew during the drone attack period). Get to Lapland lunchtime, it’s already pretty dark. Info provided snow gear. Then, speed across the frozen lake to the village. Food laid on all inclusive. Then off across the lake to Santa’s house. Slipped the Elf DS’s list on the way in (sceptical 10 yo), Santa was amazing and produced the list like a pro! Then back over the lake and spent the afternoon doing all the activities. Back to the airport about 6 and off home.
