Which board basis for first family holiday?

Looking to go away May next year with two children aged 3 and 6.
First holiday abroad with them.
The idea of a loud hotel with late night entertainment is not for me, which is why I’m leaning more towards a SC villa or a small B&B hotel.
But am I being daft and should reframe my mind for the idea of snacks, soft drinks and ice creams when they want and more kid friendly activities?

I’m a bit of an overthinker and could do with some help.
Recommendations welcome

100% all inclusive!the ease of grabbing food/drinks and not having to plan everything.
you get some nice quiet all inclusive hotels. I've been to 3 with my boy who's three and only one was noisy at night until about 11. The rest was veryyyy quiet from around 10. Most have a show on at 9 for 45mins then it quiets down.
my boy is always in bed no later than 9 on holiday and it's never disturb him.

We have always self-catered, whether that’s on a complex (eg Eurocamp) or in a villa / cottage. Then you have complete freedom to eat what you want, when you want and you can go out to eat in nearby towns etc.

Ah, let them enjoy the kids disco. Perfect ages for it and although it can be a bit cheesy they will love a bit of chu chu ua 🤣

I’d look at the Canaries, all inclusive resorts with Jet2 as it’s so easy. You’re not a prisoner, you can still eat out a couple of times and explore the resort.

We did a mix. Self catering in France was always successful. AI - too many annoying other people. However dc liked the children’s activities. We hated it. So ditched fairly quickly. Tried a few cruises but again dc loved them - us not so much. Then we branched out a lot more and went with Families Worldwide that we all enjoyed!

Another AI fan if with young children (my kids are now in their twenties). So easy. If they don't like whats for lunch or dinner they choose something else. Drinks get knocked over by the pool, just get another. Kids club. Lots of things going on and if you're going out of high season it will be quiet. No traipsing round looking for a restaurant.
It's just so easy with young children.

We went to a gorgeous all inclusive when the kids were little. Elba Sara in Furtuventura. Lots to do but not crazy loud. I’d recommend it as a family friendly option.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/03/2025 11:02

AI is so easy with kids and we’ve never had a problem with noise late at night.

strawlight · 23/03/2025 11:11

We don’t love AI as we prefer to eat at local restaurants (many of which struggle in resorts with a lot of AI hotels) but the odd time we have done it I must admit it’s easy, if a little boring.

stanleypops66 · 23/03/2025 12:09

If you want an easy holiday then go good quality AI with a few restaurant/ bar options, onsite entertainment including kids club. I don’t want to go on holiday and have to deal with cooking and cleaning. We do sometimes do self catering but dc are older, so can go to the local bakery and get their own breakfast.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/03/2025 12:10

At those ages, avoid self catering. All inclusive all the way.

Thanks so much everyone :)
