We haven’t been abroad for a very long time due to finances so I haven’t booked flights in ages and DC have never been abroad. We have booked accommodation in Spain and I need to book flights. Which airlines are best? It’s been so long! 🤦🏻‍♀️the nearest airport to the accommodation is Reus but we could go to Barcelona and drive x

Which uk airport? You need to look at the luggage price as well as flight.

Ideally Gatwick although we are also near Southampton and Bournemouth. Could do any London airport if needed!
thank you x

I would just go on Skyscanner, stick in your journey and see what they find. There isn't much to choose between the airlines for those short trips. Some you'll be on easy jet or Ryanair etc.

do double check prices with luggage. It can make a massive difference.

Sometimes BA or Vueling works out cheaper than Easyjet once you factor in extras.

cestlavielife · 22/03/2025 17:21

You have better protection in event of issues if you book a package eg jet 2 or tui or book hotel with ba along with flights. Might be easier if your first time in long time. Coach Transfers will be included eg jet2
But if too late then
Make sure to buy travel insurance already in case you arrive late or miss your accommodation.
You might find cheaper flights do not match your accommodation booking so consider needing a cheap hotel for additionalnight...if flight on sat is 200 each but on Sunday is 100 each for example it might be cheaper to book a hotel room in location for one night

It’s often cheaper to book flight and hotel combo via airline. With fixed dates you are stuck with certain flights and you will find prices vary a lot on different days of the week.

I go on sky scanner to see the options and prices, then book directly with my preferred carrier.

As people have said check for extra fees like hold baggage and seat booking. We don't tend to book seats as we don't care where we sit, but if it is important to you make sure you factor that in.

Also these days you can check in online and download your boarding passes so keep an eye out for emails from the airline.

We just booked a trip after ages, and figuring out flights felt so weird! For Spain, checking both Reus and Barcelona worked well—sometimes flying into Barcelona and driving wasn’t much longer but gave more airline options. I also looked around for cheap flights to tokyo recently, and it was surprisingly easy to compare prices and pick something that worked.
