Residential summer school for Musical Theatre

We are looking at an alternative summer school for my dd this year. Last year she did West End Stage. Has anyone been to BYMT or NYMT. I don’t really know the difference between the two. Any other recommendations (must be residential). We’re an hour away from London. Thank you.

My DD did BYMT and loved it, it was really well run. She also did Tring Park and it, similarly, was really well run and she had a brilliant time. Summer Musical Theatre Course - Tring Park. She slightly preferred the Tring Park one and did it two years in a row.

Thank you. They get a grade 6 Trinity Certificate at BYMT. Do you know if that counts as UCAS points please? Thank you. X

Yes they are according to Trinity's website x UCAS and Progress 8 points (Music Performance and Theory) | Trinity College London

Mine did a BYMT course a few years ago and it was excellent - the show itself was superb - a new musical by talented women and the cast all very good. There is a whole thread on here about them - it can be quite hard to get onto the courses

@Munn68. Trinity exams are not the same as a summer school certificate. I would be wary of thinking 1 week gives UCAS points with NO exams being taken. DD did grade 8 musical theatre and it was not done in one week at a summer school. I’d contact Trinity for information. A certificate isn’t the exams. Also how could dc be marked and graded? UCAS points depend on grade achieved.

It is graded by Trinity and they are there for the shows. My daughter had one graded by Trinity years ago when she did a big show. I will investigate further though. Thank you. X

Yes but was it considered an exam? Has she the exam certificate? If it’s an exam it does give a few UCAS points but most standard uni courses don’t want UCAS points from MT. They want them from A levels. Obviously MT degree is different.

Yes, she was awarded a proper certificate from Trinity College London for a Grade 1 in Musical Theatre in Production with Distinction. I am completely new to all this and my main reason was if she would benefit from a particular summer course because it awarded a Trinity London Exam Certificate - Grade 6 and would go towards UCAS.

BYMT seems a very good Summer course anyway tbh.

Ok. That’s the whole performance that’s assessed. Not the individual. It’s not the same as the individual or dual exams. So she’s not done an exam. Look at the info about the exams for UCAS points. What you describe isn’t the same. Trinity have the info on their web site. All their grades at higher levels take a lot of work to go through the syllabus.

An hour outside London in which direction ?

If you are South
There are residential Courses with Kent Music held at Benenden School TN17
My sons did both various Orchestra and Musical Theatre courses there.

I think its actually one that is issued through Mountview - and as yet it is not registered through UCAS. DO check though. If it is Trinity then yes - but the details suggest it isnt.

Any updates on your theatre summer camp experience? What are your thoughts about the West End Theatre Camp?

Thanks!
