Montreal - what to see?

I’m heading to Montreal with work in July and would like to bring DD18 and tag a wee holiday on. Any suggestions on things to do and see wise Mumsnetters? I’d love to do one of those cross country trains with glass rooves but suspect the cost might be prohibitive

Wolf sanctuary at Parc Omega - about an hour and half from Montreal.

Parc Omega

also normally lots of festivals in Montreal in July. It’s a good month to be in the city.

Ok here we go:

Go to an area called Le Plateau and walk around, have coffee/drinks
Go walk around Parc Mont- Royal
Go and see Outremont
Go and see Westmount

Yes the train that you mention is a cross country one and is expensive.

From Montreal you can take many trains: Quebec City, Ottawa etc.

Will you hire a car whilst you're there?
Also, how many days will you be there??

Go to Schwartz’s Deli for a smoked meat sandwich.

Have a mooch around Holt Renfrew Ogilvy.

For train journeys, take a look at Via Rail’s trip from Montreal to Halifax - The Ocean route.

In Montreal, I would go to the Notre Dame, the old port area, the museum of fine arts, the Jean talon market, the botanical gardens

You could also take a drive to Mont Tremblant which has a nice lake and beautiful walks in the summer. The town is very nice.

Parc Omega, is great, but you need a car for that.

train trip to Ottawa and Gatineau is nice and there is a lot to see in Ottawa.

lots of lakes in cottage country for a weekend away

Also trains to Quebec City

fly to PEI, it’s a short flight so good for a weekend

Thanks all, really helpful suggestions so far. We’ll probably have about a week there after my work stuff (I don’t like to be away from home for too long). I’d like to avoid hiring a car if possible but could do it if it’s the best/only way to see things

I was in Ottawa for a conference then went on to Montreal which I loved ( just the vibe rather than any particular landmark) there was a comedy festival on which was a bit like the Edinburgh fringe with lots of acts in the street, some of them actually very funny. I do remember a very good pastrami bagel place, maybe it was Schwartz as per the PP. I did hire a car and go to Algonquin national park and camped, which was very nice. I remember being surprised that some of the lakes have sandy “ beaches” and the water was nice and warm. Hope you have a great time!
