New York cheap(ish) easts

I'm going to New York soon and want to know what the must try food places. I am looking for some street food and better value for money but also willing to splash out a little if it's somewhere I must try while there! I love food, will definitely make a visit to Chinatown and open to all cuisines. I think I've sorted out a lot of the attractions I want to see and I have bought a pass for the 9/11 memorial and the observation decks etc. So I'm thinking my main cost will be food and drink while there. Please let me know your recommendations?

Hell’s Kitchen area has some great restaurants, the Peruvian one is excellent. For cheaper eats there are food markets (aka small supermarkets) with hot food service eg breakfast that’s economical, the pizza takeout at the bus station by times square is cheap. And don’t be afraid to say you are sharing especially for breakfast and lunch, portions are huge!

If you walk around then there are many bagel places and places that do pizza slices. They’re not too expensive. Maybe $7 a piece. 7/11 was super expensive though whereas I know in other countries it’s pretty cheap.

I went to some random diners too. They’re good for a $10 hot plate. Of course there are tips and service charge too so maybe it’s $15. I thought food wasn’t too expensive if I just ate small portions of stuff two or three times a day. Have fun in NY!

I like pizza from Johns on Bleeker St.

If you are in the lower east side, get a potato knish from Yonah Schimmel's Knish Bakery, or a pastrami sandwich to share at Katz Deli.

Joes Shanghai in Chinatown was nice too, although it’s been a few years, you may want to check recent reviews.

Grand Central Station had a cool food court in the lower concourse which was great - bakeries, pizza, seafood and other options.

Eataly has lighter meal options (pizza and panini counters).

There are lots of bagel places / delis (Katz deli, Carnegie Deli are some well-known ones).

I hate to rain on your parade but are you sure you want to travel to thr USA at the moment.
A French academic was barred from entering the USA because he had something mildly antiTrump on his phone.

They're also picking people of the streets for spurious reasons and sending them to concentration camps in El Salvador.

If you end up by the Natural History Museum (well worth a visit) then head to Zabars a couple of blocks away on the Upper West Side. It’s a much loved bakery and deli. Had the BEST smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel with a coffee. They also sell renowned knishes and other take away treats.

If you’re a Friends fan and want to splash out a bit then Little Owl is fabulous. It’s “central Perk” in the credits that show the external of the apartment building. I was sceptical as a result but my friend who lives there too us and it was fab

Why would you feel the need to comment this I really don't understand 😂

Chipotle does a good Mexican-style bowl or wrap. Find out about how to order beforehand though, as you go down the line making choices at lightening speed. We just asked for what the finance bro ahead of us was having!

and obviously Dunkin’ for coffee and a donut for breakfast.

Ray's pizza just north of Times Square. About $5 a slice, grab one and go sit on the stairs in Times Square and just absorb life!
