We've got a big anniversary in October and would like to go on a nice holiday.
We like culture food wine wildlife a mix of city and maybe a few days beach at the end.
We have been lucky enough to have been quite a few places but October doesn't seem a great month for travel!!

It would have been helpful @whippleproceedure if you had said you wanted long haul in your initial post.

I know the region has been unsettled but how about Jordan?

whippleproceedure · 16/03/2025 18:12

Sorry was just hoping for some more creative thinking!! Which you have certainly given!
I've only been to Tokyo so Japan would be a good possibly. I'll also look at your other suggestions. Thankyou for all your help!

Not in October but Colombia is amazing. Bogotá. The Amazon. Caribbean coast……Was there in July but weather is similar all year round.,

Yes Brazil is definitely an interesting idea!
Think we've done a lot of obvious places so just wanted your opinions! Bhutan had never crossed my radar so going to look at that as well ! Once again thank you all

@whippleproceedureBrazil has a number of options but you need internal flights. There’s some amazing costal resorts which are small and utterly Brazilian. Wonderful cities with exquisite churches and the Amazon of course. I would normally suggest Ecuador but it’s not too stable at the moment.

Ve been in Oct and the weather was very warm, though a bit cool first thing in the morning. It’s a beautiful city and I’m sure you will enjoy it

Ooh interesting! I’d made peace with the fact that it would be pleasant compared to the UK but not ‘summer’ hot. I’m sure we’ll love it :) I’ve been to Florence and Pisa before but my husband and kids haven’t. Hoping to visit Lucca and Siena too :)

We had a fabulous October week in the Basque Country. Flew into Bilbao and spent a few days in Hondarribia (gorgeous beaches and a wee drive into France (-pre Brexit. Don't know if it's that easy now). Then a few days in Bilbao. In both locations the food was out of this world. Wine was good and cheap and people were so friendly. So much to see. Air BNB in Hondarribia and a hotel in Bilbao. Weather was gorgeous.

Have you been to Madagascar, this has been endlessly on my wish list, and we almost went on our honeymoon and still slightly regret choosing to go somewhere else. Since then kids came along and it's not been a viable option. I think though it would be great option to if it's in budget.
Otherwise we did Indonesia in October, weather was perfect, we flew into Jakarta and then flew to Yogyakarta for Borobudur, Prambanan and other temples, plus time in Yogyakarta itself, we then flew to Bali split time between Ubud and the coast. Was a lovely trip. We had a baby and a toddler with us, but would probably have squeezed in/reorganised to fit in Mount Bromo and a trip to the komodo dragons if we were child free.
It's a great time of year for Japan and/or South Korea, I lived in Japan for a while, and there is loads to do, enough to fill several holidays. I've only seen Seoul in South Korea, but reckon you could spend a full holiday there. We stopped in Seoul en route to Uzbekistan, which we visited in October. It's not really filled with luxurious hotels and fancy restaurants, potentially a bit more basic than what you are looking for, but it's fascinating. I am sure I could think of other options of I knew your travel style.

We went to Singapore in October and the weather was great. There was some torrential rain over night a couple of times but nothing in the day time. We split our stay by doing the first half in the city and the second half in a resort on Sentosa. You can also get the ferry to Bintan in Indonesia.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/03/2025 21:18

Thailand, Sri Lanka, Lisbon, Madeira, Hong Kong is perfect that time of year

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/03/2025 21:18

Can combine with Malaysia for more wildlife

whippleproceedure · 18/03/2025 09:15

I have never been to Hong Kong so that's a real possibility I'll take a look!!

If you go to HK you should think about China. So much to see and October is a good month. Trains and internal flights make it easy and hotels are good.

mathanxiety · 18/03/2025 15:42

Costa Rica has lovely weather in October, especially on the Caribbean side. There are beaches, ruins, wildlife/ trekking, lovely food.

But avoid the first week of October as it’s golden week and everywhere will be packed.

It's a great time to do the Carribean , each island has its own personality.

Muscat

It’s late in hurricane season in the Caribbean but probably ok. We’ve been late October and it’s fine and less money than later on. Island hopping in the BVIs is great!
