Mountain holiday with toddler

We are braving taking our one year old abroad for the first time and it would be either Easter or May half term.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a mountain holiday, where we can access a mixture of challenging mountain hikes and simple toddler wanders, that is a short flight (2-3 hours) from Northern England?

You'll need to stay low at that time of year. Jura, Vosges, Appenines etc. What are you planning to do with the toddler while you go on the challenging hikes?

She will be with us in the backpack carrier.
I probably should have specified what I meant by challenging vs toddler walks! Something where we could climb a few hundred metres of elevation, without any scrambling, and walk for 2-3 hours or use a cable car to do the work for us so we just walk back down. We know we won't be getting to any summits at that time of year but we've got plenty of time for that when she's older!

Innsbruck is fantastic. Lots to see and easy walks for the toddler as well as some more challenging hikes. The Innsbruck card gives you access to all local attractions and gondolas

A lot of cable cars don't reopen until end May or June, so I don't think you'll get what you're looking for in a ski resort. Plus everything will be a bit drab and brown because the snow has just gone. I agree Innsbruck is nice with a zoo and some low ski resorts accessible by public bus or tram which should be fine for walking and green in May. Otherwise, rather than heading for the Alps, how about smaller ranges of hills like the Ardeche or the mountains north of Nice, which should be nice at that time of year. Sardinia, Crete and the Sierra Nevada would all be a nice temperature with a fair bit of climbing.

Austria. Look near Salzburg/Innsbruck. I’ve been to Seefeld with an 18 month old. Highly recommend. Connected by train to lots of places and a lot of peaks have play parks and cafes at the top. You can take furniculars and cable cars to shorted the hikes too. Lots of walks for various abilities. Had an amazing family walking holiday there. If you can afford Switzerland, I’ve heard it’s very child friendly. Also you could do a package with something like Inghams to make it easier.

Have a look at the Ramble family on you tube. They do tons of walking with toddlers and did Italian /Austrian Alps last summer and was stunning

The OP's dates might prove to be an issue regarding accommodation and cable cars.

Easter 2025 is relatively late and many resorts are closing at the end of March or the first week in April. The cable cars, restaurants, hotels etc. then remain closed until the summer season starts at the end of May, usually at Whitsun, which is also late this year (6th June). For example, cable cars in Saalbach close on 6th April and don't re-open until 29th May.

We went to St Anton when ds was similar age. Seefeld might also be a good call.

You’ll run a big risk of rain in Easter. May half term still risky but much better.

Agree ski lifts will be closed so I wouldn’t head for ski resorts.

Dolomites? You could combine with Lake Garda quite easily which would be lovely with a toddler.

Agree Easter, especially being so Late his year, is likely to be mixed in terms of weather and access to walking trails by lift. End of May is when lifts and mountain cafes reopen for summer season , starting around Ascension and Whitsun, but possibly weekends and mid week only unless the resort is large. Also not yet warm enough for lake bathing and outdoor pools even in Italian lakes. Chamonix may be worth a look as you can take a train up to Mer du Glace , it has several play areas and walks along the valley at various resorts. Short transfer from Geneva.

I would suggest Seefeld lots of lovely walks not all high
