We need 1 night in Singapore after a cruise and have decided to splurge. Shortlist at the moment is Raffles or Marina Bay Sands. Any opinions on either of these or should we look at something else?

Location not really important as we just want to spend our time enjoying the hotel, use the pool, drinks and dinner and then we'll be getting a taxi next day to airport. Want to feel like we've booked total luxury, once in a lifetime type place.

Marina bay was a disappointment for me. Place was rammed full and is totally enormous. The Mandarin Oriental was fab as was The Fullerton.

Agree. You can't swim in the pool properly as it's rammed with vacuous airheads doing full photo shoots on their phones. Obviously I wasn't at all childish and I didn't do splashy swimming past them all. It did make me despair for humanity!

I love a huge hotel but it was just too big, like an aircraft hanger. It feels like an airport.

Raffles, if you don't stay there you can always go in the bar and fret about throwing the monkey nut shells on the floor.

@TorroFerney ha ha I just couldn't bring myself to do the nutshell tossing.

Capella for relaxing? It’s got class. Or Shangri La or Ritz Carlton Millenia

Mbs to me was like the place all the coach trips go to, people moving around in packs, posing on supercars etc. Like an airport terminal. Raffles was calm quiet and sophisticated, we went for my 50th for two weeks in 2019

When passing through, I had to have a two night stay at Raffles. With lots of photo's of me there (I usually avoid photo's of me). When my dad was in the navy they were banned from setting foot in the place because they weren't officers.

Can really recommend the pool at the Shangri-La, and the rooms were lovely. A friend took me for evening drinks at the Fullerton rooftop which was really swish.

I stayed at bencoolen hotel for a short stopover and liked how central it was—super easy to get around and close to food options. It’s not a splurge like Raffles or MBS, but if you’re spending just one night and prefer to save money for activities, it’s a solid choice. Room was clean and the staff were friendly too.

The Fullerton was lovely.
Pool overlooking the Cavanagh bridge, great location, and access to the Fullerton Bay rooftop pool and bar, via the underground travelator. Had an amazing view of the MBS.

We booked MBS C’est La Vie bar , and then looked at it from the other side ;)
have the say the smoking area in MBS is one of the nicest in Singapore if you are into that, better than standing in a yellow box on a side street
