Eurocamp France advice

Hi, booked for a week in June at Saint Avit Loisirs
Le Bugue, Dordogne. This will be our first Eurocamp, been talking about doing it for a while. We are actually flying there as our local airport (less than a mile) does flights to Bergerac. DH is a little nervous of driving all the wayz he is fine driving anywhere in UK but worried about driving on the other side of the road! My parents are also coming however my dad is driving (drives all over Europe) and they get there the night before, my dad will take the car seats and pick us up from airport. I suggested we hire a car when we are there for a few a days but DH thinks that we may be able to get taxis from camp to local places. I can also drive but again I must admit, having only previously driven once in Spain years ago, I am nervous. Is it a must for hiring a car or will be able to go towns locally by taxi? TIA to anyone who can give advice.

You will need a car to make the most of the area. There is loads to do nearby, but taxis will not cut it. There is lots to do on site also. I don't think I even saw a taxi...

We stayed at that site a few years ago. It's got lots of facilities but is quite remote and you really need a car to make the most of such a beautiful area.

JoyousEagle · 12/03/2025 20:46

I worked for eurocamp on that site many years ago. You'll need a car if you want to be doing things out and about offsite. If you are more likely to stay on site around the pool etc, and just go out occasionally to Le Bugue for dinner or something, taxis will probably be fine. But I'd recommend a car.

I used to work for Eurocamp, had about 30 tents to clean in a day and they were so tight my "cleaning bucket" was washing up liquid and some bog roll. So, before you get settled, wash your cutlery, glasses and crockery. Sorry! Have a nice time

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone. Will definitely push for hiring a car, even if it's only for a few days. Handy to know we can get a taxi to Le Bugue (if the site can order us one) unfortunately we are just one seat short in my dad's car but he has said we could hire a very small car and he will keep the children in his which is good. We have booked the Ultimate accommodation and my mum has never stayed in anything like Eurocamp before and wanted all her mod cons! And our lodges should be near each other but thanks for the tip @Yerdug will definitely wash it all 😂

Sorry, just another question if anyone knows. What are the laundry facilities like, are they reasonably priced?

French rural roads will be fairly quiet. And hire an automatic, it's only less thing to worry about as you get used to being on the wrong side of the road.
Eurocamp laundry is rarely expensive, you usually buy a token in the shop.

I completely agree. I loved driving around the area. Quiet roads and a nice automatic = bliss.

Depending on your arrival day be aware that everything closes at midday on a Sunday. My DD and I landed at about 10am on a Sunday so whizzed around the intermarche before heading to our campsite.

We flew into Bergerac and stayed at a euro camp about 30 mins away with no car, and it was really hard. Because it was quite remote there were no taxis so we had to walk to the supermarket and back 🫣 (was able to get a taxi for airport runs)
we really didn’t plan it well! I’d definitely recommend a car.

Oh wow thanks for this @ProfessorInkling we get there on a Sunday afternoon! Will get my parents to pick up essentials for us all as they arrive the day before. I assume restaurants on site will be open on a Sunday?
Everyone I have spoken to who has been to one has really enjoyed it, I'm really looking forward to it and I've swayed DH on the car and I will get insured too, as sounds like we won't have many issues driving there.

There is a shop on site you can pick up basics from (and pastries/breads each morning), restaurant/bar will also be open. Then you can visit the superU in town the following morning. We LOVE this site, been 3 times, you will definitely need a car I am afraid. Then you can go into Sarlat, explore villages, go canoeing on the Vezere, so many things!! Have an amazing time!!

Thank you @samlovesdilys everyone's advice and tips have been super helpful!

Hi, sorry to come back onto my old thread. Can anybody remember if either of the two bars on site have a TV with sports showing? My husband would like to watch a couple of the Euro football games that are on whilst we are away 🙄 he is very into his sports! I mean it won't be a shame to me if they don't but I said I would try and find out. I imagine my dad will also want to watch the Spanish F1 too whilst there.

There was when I worked there.

Thanks @JoyousEagle oh the other thing I wanted to ask if anyone knows, would it be Bergerac to hire a car? I can't seem to find anything else more local. My dad is picking us up from the airport but we wanted to hire one for 3-4 days.
