First all-inclusive holiday with 15 month old baby/toddler

Hi, I'm very new on here, desperately seeking advance on our upcoming holiday.

We've booked our all-inclusive holiday to Tunisia this Easter with our 15 month old, 10yo and 15yo.

I'm worried about a few things please help:

  1. Expecting my LO to sit for 4hrs on the plane will be effort enough, with some room to move around. We have a further 1 hr coach transfer to the hotel I can't see how I will manage this. Any tips on the transfer please? (No transfer upgrades available)

  2. Trying to prepare for the unpredictable facilities at the hotel.. sleeping arrangements. I have requested a travel cot but I know this isn't always a given. Even more so I'm now worried (after hearing horror stories online) about the condition of the crib and whether it's better to buy and take our own (LO would refuse to sleep if we had her in our bed).

  3. Bedtime critters.... as silly as it seems my husband and I are petrified of cockroaches! Although we would never let this stop us from seeing to world, I can't bear the thought of them getting into the crib in the night as most travel crib are floor level....any help or advice please!!!

  4. my LO has CMPA and I don't know how I will manage to feed her from the buffet. Without her just living off chips or dry pasta (which she's not a fan of)

  5. my LO still has a morning and bedtime bottle, how do you store this? If I put it in the fridge I can't heat it (she won't have it cold). If I keep it at room temperature they'll go off so fast. Will I be able to buy oat milk locally?!?

Any holiday tips to make our first family holiday enjoyable would be very much appreciated.

Am I overthinking this?

I know this all might seems like a silly idea but we booked it when LO was tiny and didn't expect her to be such a handful.

Thank you x

  1. All you can do is try and get her to run around as much possible between getting off the plane and onto the coach. Take lots of toys and things to keep her busy. Hope she naps.
  1. I would take my own travel cot.
  1. Other than checking the room before bed there isn't really much you can do.
  1. What does she eat at home? Presumably, she can eat meat/fish/veg/fruit? I'd inform the hotel before you get there, but it shouldn't be hard to avoid milk.
  1. Keep the milk in the fridge and run the bottle under the hot tap/put it in a bowl of hot water to take the chill off before she drinks it.

Other tips:

Take a change of clothes for her and you on the plane incase she's sick/has an upset tummy. Take more snacks than you think you will ever need in case of delays. If a screen works to keep her happy and still on the plane then use one. Make sure your partner pulls their weight! A fitted bed sheet can be great to create a sandwich free play area on the beach (upside down so the corner are up). Take plenty of suncream and Calpol.

I'm really sorry but I can't give you many answers but advice to exercise plenty before boarding the coach, accept that items on a buffet in a non western country may not be suitable for dietary requirements but there will be vegetables, grilled meats, fish etc, access to oat milk is a complete unknown, try emailing the hotel, mine were in beds by that age, is that an option if the cot is of poor quality?

For the future, in the canaries they had non dairy milk and food selections for different diets as do cruises, I've just never done Tunisia

Really appreciate your answer. Genius beach hack. I think buying a travel cot will remove a lot of my stress. And getting the other half to pull his weight will be the hardest challenge, I'm contemplating sitting apart as him snoring the whole way or being tired cranky will only make my job harder.

This is very helpful. Can I ask, what age did you transition from cot to bed at home?
I think we'll look at canaries for our next trip

Take oat milk in your checked luggage. Just wrap it in a plastic bag incase it leaks. You can buy travel bottle warmers & sterilising tablets to make bottles. All the resorts we’ve stayed at have a microwave for parents to use in the dining room & they also have had a dedicated baby food section. I’ve never been to Tunisia though so it may be different there.
