First solo trip

Mid-30s. Found myself single for the first time since I was a teenager and have just come into some money. Feeling worn out and numb from a series of horrible events over the past few years.

I feel like a trip would do me good, but I have to confess to not feeling that motivated for a big adventure currently. I'm also, I have to admit, rather having to talk myself into doing a trip alone or with a group of people I don't know. I liked having a partner.

What would you do in my shoes? I'm very open to multiple trip ideas and lengths

Things I like -

Swimming (or more specifically bobbing about in water like a frog), kayaking, birdwatching, reading, walking, plants/gardens, comedy and nature.

I need to be somewhere that will cater for a vegan diet.

Places I had vaguely on my radar to go with others - Japan, Switzerland, Canada, US National Parks and Hawaii. None with any particular urgency. I'm as worn out as I'm sounding and wish I felt more motivated by potential freedom and travel.

Any and all ideas welcomed. It would be good to have something to feel happy about. Feel quite empty at the moment. Thanks in advance.

How about Kerala in south India, amazing food easily catering for vegan diet, fascinating culture and history, beautiful scenery including backwater rivers and lagoons and bird watching galore. I loved my solo trip there. Lots of beautiful resorts form small homestays on the river to gorgeous stylish hotels. Have a look at the Kumarakom Lake resort.

When I was in a similar situation I did a couple of lovely group trips with Explore - they do walking and cultural trips - and then a longer language holiday in South America. Loved that too as I was travelling with a small group and a teacher. I’ve tried a solo holiday in Turkey but just felt self conscious and everyone else was there as a happy family, which made me feel rubbish.

When I was single, I went on a gulet holiday in Turkey, through Friendship Travel. All meals were included. It was easy to be vegan, as all the meals provided included heaps of salads and vegetables. I thoroughly recommend Friendship Travel. I loved that holiday so much, I went three more times.

Try Flashpack, they do age range holidays, so less likely to end up with a bunch of retirees. That's what my lovely office manager does at work and she's had fantastic trips over the last three years

Swim Trek might work for you. Most people go alone or as pairs of friends. It’s very sociable.

Goa would be fabulous .
I'm looking for a solo 2 week trip end of October and am considering Japan to blitz the gardens .
