Holiday suggestions for DS aged 25

I am looking for holiday suggestions for my DS. He's 25, has a week's holiday coming up soon, and is going on his own.

Are there any group holidays for young people, involving perhaps walking, sightseeing, or similar, in the UK or abroad? He's a bit of a loner (although perfectly normal, good job, independent, left home long ago😁), and always goes places on his own. I'd just like to subtly suggest to him some group activities!!!

I know he won't want to spend a massive amount, as he's saving for a house. Any suggestions gratefully received by me at least - if he knew I was posting, I'm sure he'd be horrified at my interference!!! 😂

Would he actually enjoy a group holiday? It'd be my worst nightmare.

Intrepid Basics or original style group trip, if he picks somewhere like Morocco that you can pick-up low cost flights to get to the price should be reasonable. Worth paying for a single room if he's going to need some down time away from the group. I've not done a basics trip but did several original style trips in my late 20s (obviously this was quite a while ago), back then it was like backpacking but with company.

In UK, Wales. Tywyn area. Cheap accommodation lots of train options and walks. Quiet and very safe. If Europe, Bernese Oberland is wonderful. Especially Grindelwald but will cost about £2k.

www.contiki.com/en-gb

As an Aussie living in UK it always amazes me that Contiki is a household name in Australia and NZ yet barely heard of in this country. The absolute best fun tours for young people, especially those without a ready made group to travel with.

Oh dear, you could be right...😁 but I'm not going to buy it for him, just suggest it...

HF Holidays for walking breaks - very communal in terms of activities and meals, but own room

IMissSparkling · 05/03/2025 21:36

I'm sure he can organise his own holiday without his mummy chipping in.

PreFabBroadBean · 05/03/2025 21:38

Intrepid Basics, contiki and HF all sound good. I like the look of Tywyn for me. 😄

My 30 year old ds does holidays on his own, he loves the guided group type holidays. He did Thailand last year, I think he used a company called Exodus. He’s just been to the Philippines I’m not sure who that was with.

Blimey, that's a little rude! Hope I don't meet you on my holidays 😂

Exodus is another good suggestion, thank you!

Look - I know your heart's in the right place but I'd be pretty irritated if my mum started suggesting I go on jolly group holidays because she thinks I'm a loner. It would be a pretty clear indication that she doesn't understand me whatsoever.

PreFabBroadBean · 05/03/2025 21:50

SapphireOpal* *I'm sure it won't irritate him. We rarely see each other, but he did ask me for holiday suggestions when we last met up, and I had no ideas at all! I was a loner myself when I was young, but I did enjoy some backpacking group trips.

People have been really helpful, though, so thank you for all the suggestions. 😀

Not exactly a group holiday but a cheap way to ski as a novice or experienced skier with a bunch of under 30s is UCPA. All my kids went in their late teens/early 20s and loved it.

I agree with this.

My ds did a mixed holiday last year - 4 days joining a group doing activities then he stayed another 3 days at the end, on his own.
His plan is to go alone again this years, as he really enjoyed it.

It sounds like your ds is independent and capable @PreFabBroadBean - leave him to choose the way he wants to holiday for himself.
