It's good value for money (and free for under threes if I remember correctly). Lots of good interactives which really catch children (+ adult!) imaginations. Specially good if they have one of their temporary exhibitions on (check online).

KristinaM · 11/05/2008 20:33

ours are 2,3 and 8 and only the 8yo really " gets" most of it. the other two run around like lunatics banging all the noisy stuff and generally have a good time. we need two adults - one intellectual to explain all the science bits to the 8yo and one fit one to run after 2 hooligan toddlers ( guess which one i am )

it would be the same for you as your 5yo woudl not be able to read most of the exhibits. unless they are a child genius. or your 3yo is well behaved

if you are flush then i would go for it. if you are a bit strapped for cash i would do something cheaper (like trip on the subway and park) or free like the transport museam or art galleries or the peoples place and winter gardens

thanks, thats very useful, we're visiting family so may not have time to do anything but it good to know whats about, DD1 loves science (much to DH's disgust!) and we failed to get to techniquest at eater so was thinking this would be good.

I have £25 of tesco vouchers which is worth £100 in days out vouchers and the Glasgow Science Centre is on the list!

katz · 11/05/2008 21:26

But does Nina live there with the Neurons????

My dd thinks she does and she knows it's near Grandma's house!!

scottishmummy · 11/05/2008 21:46

glasgow science centre links page enjoy

frasersmummy · 11/05/2008 21:59

the gsc has a nina and the neurons trail..

basically you visit all the exhibits about senses .. tick them off when they have seen them and get a sticker at the end

generaly it is expensive for the day.. we have a yearly pass (pays for itself in 3 vists) and my 3 year old loves it.. I cant get him out once he is there.

They have a planetarium as well thats worth a visit (£2 extra)

enjoy your day

We went using Tesco vouchers, they take them no prob. It's pricey , but absolutely great, my kids love it. (4 and 3).
If you're watching your pennies, I seem to remember that there's a bit where you can eat packed lunches.
We were the last people to go in the Glasgow Tower lift, before the trip where it got stuck. Dd was 3 months old at the time. Can you imagine being stuck in a lift for six hours with a three monther (and no nappy bag!!)
They don't use the lift any more.

squeaver · 12/05/2008 13:28

Thank you frasersmummy - I think. Don't suppose I can get out of going now...

roisin · 12/05/2008 13:32

It is absolutely flipping fantastic. We have been to loads of these places, and my boys rate GSC as one of the best they've ever been to, and they want to go back soon.

It's definitely value for money, especially with the Tesco vouchers. Make sure you check what workshops are on that day, and sign up for those, as they are fab.

(Cafe was disappointing when we went: definitely take your butties!)

Enjoy!

seb1 · 12/05/2008 15:09

The plantarium is fab.

webchick · 12/05/2008 15:43

Its a good day out for sure, and a few extras you can do as well as previously mentioned plus the tower which I didnt go up as it was v cloudy but would like to next trip. Take a packed lunch as the food court is minimal. HTH
