What is the best age for Disneyland Paris?

I have DD5 (year 1), DS4(reception) and DD2. If we go before September this year, we don't have to pay for DD2 and can also just have one room for us all (when DD turns 3 we have to have two rooms which will be annoying and a lot more expensive).

So it will be cheaper to go some time this year, but still more for 3 days/ 2 nights than we'd normally spend on a week's holiday so we'd want it to be something DC would enjoy.

I've seen a few other threads to wait until DC are about 7 or 8 to get the most of it. So is it worth going this year when it's a bit cheaper, or wait a while until maybe we have DD10, DS9 and DD7?

DD5 and DS4 have heard about it from friends and are keen, although they don't fully understand what it's all about and obviously don't appreciate the meaning of the expense!

DD5 likes Frozen but not really into the whole Disney Princess thing. She only really likes quite sedate rides. DS4 is into rollercoasters (any he's tall enough for, the faster the better!) and loves Lion King, Toy Story and quite likes a few of the other films. Not sure DD2 would be too bothered about any of the characters. Neither DH nor I are really into rides etc or Disney.

Is it just a waste of money for us at this stage or should we go before youngest DC is 3? And then maybe again when they're older? It wouldn't be something we could afford often but could definitely do it more than once.

Or just save our money and stick to Legoland, CBeebies land etc?

I went when I was about 11, which I thought was a good age, maybe a bit too old. My siblings were 4 and 2, I think they were much too young if I’m honest. They hardly remember it and were quite overwhelmed with it all. Disney is lovely but a lot of it is spent walking around, waiting in queues and getting up early/going to bed late, which was a lot for my siblings and they spent a lot of the holiday exhausted.

I’d wait until they’re a bit older, but you know your kids best and they may not struggle with it as much as my siblings did.

I'd go to legoland Windsor tbh.

We went in October with DD4 and DD15months, it was great! There were so many more things the baby could go on than I thought. We did lots of shows which they both loved, plus loads of the rides we could have her on our laps. You won't regret it, it caters for all ages

Our youngest was 3 and they absolutely loved it!! They still talk about it. Highly recommend it!

I'd wait until they are a little bit older. In Davy Crockett's ranch you can get a two bed cabin and they aren't very expensive. We're going this year with dd6 and ds13.

Took mine at 11 & 8. I thought perfect age. I think 6/7 up. You want them to remember it and there's a lot of queuing/crowds. I wouldn't personally bring a baby/toddler

Martymcfly24 · 01/03/2025 18:43

We are just back a few days ago kids are 6 and 9 and I thought they were the perfect age but that could be just that we had such an amazing time

The awkward age is when they are not in a buggy but still have little legs but you can hire really big strollers

I went when my dc were 2 and 4. They had an amazing time! I have such wonderful memories of the journey on their faces. Plus DD was free in all the buffet restaurants.

Just been with 12 yo, 9yo, 3yo and 2yo. Plenty for all of them, they all enjoyed it. Had a double buggy and it was fine for bus transfers etc. 2 families, 2 double beds each room and a cot for the 2 yo. Was absolutely fine. Little ones prob won't remember but it was lovely 😁

mitogoshigg · 01/03/2025 19:43

Why do you need 2 rooms, we had one room when dc were 13&15!

ghqpabks · 01/03/2025 19:44

I always think when they're out of pushchairs. Our youngest was 4 nearly 5, not napping, able to walk, old enough to not be reliant on a routine. We had a fab time.

Most rooms don't accommodate 5 people aged 3 and up.

10, 11, 12

I like Disney anyway but when we had our DS a friend with older kids gave me the advice that if we could afford it then we should go once when he's about 3 (will make it just before, so he's still free!) purely for our benefit of seeing him absorb the magic, and then again when he's 8 or 9 for his benefit to enjoy the rides etc.

It helps only having 1 as with more you're always going to have one who's a bit too young or a a bit too old I suppose. Unless you waited until they're 5, 7 and 9, that might hit it about right?

tweetypi · 01/03/2025 19:52

I took my 6yo recently, it was perfect - young enough for all the magic but tall enough to get on almost all the rides! We also had our 1yo with us and he was too young really (but was allowed on a lot more rides than in UK theme parks)

Raggeo · 01/03/2025 19:58

We loved Disney with an almost 3yo and 1yo a few years ago. Literally went the week before my eldest turned 3 so we could get the free tickets. Plenty of calm rides for them to enjoy but the shows, parades and meeting characters were the things we all enjoyed the best. We loved it so much that we went back again last summer when my youngest was almost 3,and eldest was 4. They are both desperate to go back again but thibk we will wait another. Couple of years just because of the cost.
Also, they are opening a new Frozen land sometime in 2025 so we will wait until that is ready.
Some of the Disney hotels do family rooms that sleep 5 people. Not sure the price difference compared to a normal room but could be worth checking.
I don't think there is any perfect age. Some adults love it, some adults don't. Some kids love it, some kids don't...regardless of age.

TickingAlongNicely · 01/03/2025 20:04

Ours were 5&7 (DD1 actually had her birthday there). They loved it. But they barely remember it. They remember us talking about it more. Dd2 didn't enjoy the big rides... loved numerous trips on stuff like the carousel though.

What do you want out of it? Rides, seeing characters, life long memories?

I'd probably wait until the youngest is 5 so they can fully appreciate it.

snoopyfanaccountant · 01/03/2025 20:11

My DDs are 24 and 21. DD1 has been to Disneyland Paris aged 21 months, 5 years, 14 years, 17 years, and 21 years. DD2 has been to DLP aged 2, 11, 13 and 18 years. Every trip has been different but they have all been great.
