Good Parasol for Buggy?

Blooming heck it's been hot! Does anyone have a recomendation for a good detatchable sun shade / parasol for a buggy? I have two different buggies (need a really small one to fit in the old Mini) and would like a shade that attached to the pram I was using at the time.

Last time I went out I had to use a fendish combination of cot sheet and clothes pegs to cover the baby up from the blinding sun - there has to be an easier way!

Thanks for the advice (I couldn't find a review of these things in the review section).

I did the sheet peg thing too last week! Embarrassing but effective. If it has a canopy, shade a babe is good but terrifyingly tomb-like; if not you can buy a folding thing from mothercare that is a canopy with a bend in the middle IYSWIM, or Argos do a thing a bit like a shade a babe but has bits that brace it to put over an umbrella buggy. bit wobbly but with firm strapping it works OK. Called 'world' something or other... hang on, will do links...

here

shade a babe or canopy

WilfSell · 10/05/2008 22:25

the argos one does also have a drapey bit you can zip on and off - it doesn't show this in the picture...

i just use a white waffle blanket no peg though, i hadn't thought of that!!

Oh they look great .... thanks - I like the canopy one. Are the umberella things any good?

i've always found the umbrella parasols utterly useless: they don't go where you want them too and if they're shading the baby's head, their feet are in full sun etc...

the argos one is a cheap imitation of the Protect-a-bub, which is miles better. Cheaper on Ebay though

watch out for that mothercare canopy one - it doesn't offer UV protection so is utterly pointless IMO

we used to have one like this but we left it on holiday

podsquash · 11/05/2008 19:35

Have tried the protect-a-bub and really don't like it as the wind just lifts it up! Shade-a-babe all the way for me - UV50+ rating, very easy to use and stays on, providing total coverage. Will fit over various buggies so might fit both of yours.

beckystaffs · 11/05/2008 19:50

agree with wlfsell- the parasols are rubbish- you have to keep adjusting to keep baby out of sun- waste of time.
we had a canopy come with our travel system- better idea.
The shade ababe looks fab- would baby get hot in there though?

podsquash · 12/05/2008 18:05

It is porous somehow I think - and it never seems hot when I open it up?

Also doubles as a shower canopy on days when you aren't sure what will happen.

Rebexus · 13/05/2008 11:23

I relly like that protect-a-bub .... am going searching on the net. Thanks
