Neilson holiday in term time is it just younger kids?

I’m looking at doing a Neilson holiday. It’s sooo expensive so we could likely only go in term time. We have a 7yr old and I’m just wondering if there would still be plenty of older kids for him to play with?
has anyone been in term time with school age kids. What was it like.

Not done Neilsons in term time but did do Mark Warner when my dcs were preschool aged and the majority of the guests had preschool aged kids with them.

You might get lucky but more likely the premium you are paying for Neilsons of lots of activities with similar aged kids- just won’t happen in the same way.

it might work if you find dates that the private schools are off but state schools are still in school or look when Scottish schools are off but English in.

It's been a while since we went in term time but when we did the balance of the clubs was always heavily skewed to pre-school kids compared to holiday time when there are barely any little ones. But that doesn't mean there weren't any older kids at all and as you say it's much cheaper. It's a bit of a lottery but if you go to one of the bigger resorts there's a good chance there will be at least some other kids of similar ages.

I've been at the start of the Scottish school holidays and there were plenty of kids -a mix of Scottish and from English private schools (and a few that I suspect were bunking off school). We did Club la Santa in September and there were hardly any kids apart from a handful of german and danish kids who were mostly pre-school age.

When in term time? If it’s the first two weeks of summer you’ll get lots of private school kids as they break up around the 8th/9th July

It’s not really cheaper though tbh

thank you so much for the responses.
my son is at private school so we could do the start of summer but it’s similar money. Also non of us are great in the very hot weather, which only really leaves May half term. It’s coming out at over £4500 just for a week! We did Lapland at Christmas cheaper than that!

If you’re at private school then you should factor in the amount of wasted fees for a week’s missed school when comparing the cost of a holiday in or out of term time.

IMO the whole benefit of Neilson and Mark Warner is the kids having other same age kids to play with so I wouldn’t see the point of going in term time.

If you want something similar but a bit cheaper (I think? Less packagey so hard to compare) have a look at Beyond Beach, Club Vass, Nikiana Beach Club, Ocean Elements, Wildwind.

Or if watersports aren’t so important then any hotel with a good kids club that’s aimed at that age group. I recommend Bella Mare Hotel in Corfu - in school hols they have a low key kids club specifically for primary age kids. Worked really well for our two at 7 and 9. Its sister hotel GK beach is in Crete, could work better for May.

If you don’t like heat then you could try a mountain holiday, these tend to be cheaper, not many with a kids club but look at Alpine elements which does. Or Simply Morzine, book the chalet and there will be other similar age kids there most likely.

Thank you minipie I will definitely have a look at the ones you’ve suggested.
I do agree, having kids the same age is a huge part of it. Especially as he’s an only child.
