Tell me a good girls weekend destination...

Please help me pick a surprise girls trip location!

Somewhere in Europe/short haul. Decentish weather in May.

Good for a girls weekend - cafes, restaurants, libraries/bookshops, shopping, nice architecture, a STEM related experience would be nice. Doesn't need a big drinking scene.

Not - Paris, Italy, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Prague, Austria, Romania.

Reasonably regular flights from London (even better if decently priced business class as it's a bit of a treat yourself weekend!)

Malaga? Madrid? Nice?

Mauro711 · 25/02/2025 07:13

Madrid maybe? Or Lisbon? Maybe even Berlin, that's not as pretty but very interesting city. It depends also why you don't want to go to the places you have listed, is it because you have already been there or is it because you don't like them?

Take a look at Malaga.

Take a look at Malaga.

At the risk of repeating myself and others, I’d recommend Malaga. Going shortly for my 3rd time and planning to do the things that I didn’t see on the first two times.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2025 07:51

Aarhus, Denmark

Stai · 25/02/2025 07:52

Amsterdam or Berlin.

Justasmallgless · 25/02/2025 07:56

Amsterdam would fit the criteria

lynzmb · 25/02/2025 08:16

Porto ticks all those boxes!

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 25/02/2025 08:29

Malaga Valencia or Budapest would be my recommendations. All wonderful and super easy to travel to allowing you to maximise your time

BooFestiveTulip · 25/02/2025 08:31

Amsterdam, Dublin

I was going to say Malaga

Neveranynamesleft · 25/02/2025 08:33

Malaga old town, quick and easy to get to.

HRHPRINCESSOFFLUFF · 25/02/2025 08:34

Lisbon

FrenchandSaunders · 25/02/2025 08:34

Porto or Malaga

stanleypops66 · 25/02/2025 08:34

Seville, Porto, Budapest or Lisbon.

JingsMahBucket · 25/02/2025 09:09

Genuine question for all the people suggesting Malaga: does that have opportunities for STEM focused activities? I’ve never been there and it seems like it’s mostly beach stuff?

Xiaoxiong · 25/02/2025 09:11

Shame you said not Italy because the shopping in Florence is fab and the Galileo museum and the Leonardo da Vinci museums are both fabulous STEM experiences!

Xiaoxiong · 25/02/2025 09:12

Ditto no Switzerland as Geneva ticks your boxes and you can visit CERN.

JingsMahBucket · 25/02/2025 09:16

@LittleRedRidingHoody I would highly recommend Nantes, France. My best friend and I loved it. The people are really nice, there is Les Machines d’Île which is full of steampunk large animal machines. Nantes is the home of Jules Verne so there’s a tinge of science fiction about it. There are other good museums, food and a very well planned city / transportation infrastructure to marvel at.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 25/02/2025 10:36

Thanks everyone! Fab suggestions that I'll dig into over the next few weeks 😊

I'm not sure about STEM but there is certainly historical and cultural things to do aplenty. Yes there's a beach but in all three times I've been to Malaga, I've only spent half an hour on it.

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 25/02/2025 11:10

Split or Hvar in Croatia.

SeanMean · 25/02/2025 11:10

Salou or Porto
