Best way to take extra person on holiday?

We are a family of four - two adults, a five year old and a one year old. We're planning to go on holiday this year and I would love my mum to come with us. However, when I've looked up prices, it's punitively expensive to have that extra adult - for example, a holiday that costs us £3000 for a family of four ends up costing £5000 because my mum needs her own room. I totally get it - hotel cost is per room, so that's how they charge, I just can't figure out how best to do this.

Because of the kids we do want a package holiday - pools, kids club, evening entertainment etc. (my eldest loves all that and my mum does too Grin) so we don't want to book a villa and separate flights.

Are package holidays basically not going to work for us now that we are three adults, or has someone clever figured out a way of bringing the cost down? Would be grateful for any tips!

You could get an apartment at a hotel? Plenty of inclusive type places have 2-bed apartments with another sofa bed in the lounge?

TUI blue tarida beach - all inclusive 2 bedroom room!!

Took me my husband my baby and both parents!!

Sofa in lounge is a brilliant bed too!!

Totally recommend it for you to all be together and keep costs down.

@WildCountry I couldn't find one like that in our price range - maybe because it's school holidays so the good ones are all in demand . . .

Thanks for the recommendation, @boymama2023 - we went to a different Tui Blue last year and liked the kids stuff, going to price it up Smile

Are you wanting a package for the food/drink aspect as well or just the pools, kids club, evening entertainment? If you don't mind self catering or even eating out at local restaurants for meals, Eurocamp or similar are great option. You could get a 3 or 4 bed unit so DM has her own room and some of the sites are great lively resorts with plenty of pools, kids clubs and entertainment. Somewhere like Sanguli or Praires La Mer, your not too far from airport and town/beach in walking distance

That sounds great, @muzEqy - I hadn't even considered Eurocamp or places like that. I'd aimed for all inclusive as I absolutely hate cooking and cleaning up on holiday, I really like the break from domestic drudgery, but breakfast and lunch self-catered would be fine, and then maybe an evening meal out. Will look into it, thank you!

Try searching on Jet2. I just tried end of July for 3 adults and 2 children all inclusive. Was finding 2 bed apartments for £3400
