what ID for children on UK internal flight? No passports as yet...

am planning a trip to Scotland this summer with 2dcs (1 and 6). We haven't passports (6yo one just recently expired). What id will Ba/BMI need at heathrow? This is a one-off trip and flights in July same price as train hence this option. Applying for passports will be £46 each for 5 years and since we don't go abroad seems an expense I don't want to shell out for.

TIA!

I'm flying with dd on Ryanair in July. I use my driving license as id and I don't need any for a child under 16.

Their website says "Photo-ID for children under 16 years is not required for:

  • Children travelling with an adult between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland or domestic flights within either the United Kingdom or Ireland"

You need to check the airline's policy.

yes thanks ladies, I also checked with BA on the phone as I am planning on useing their escorted child facility for my 6yo - birth certificate is fine as is my driving license. Phew, that saves me £150 or so.
