There are loads of restaurants to choose from. What kind of food/cuisines do you like?

Jorvik museum, transport/railway museum

City walls

Just wonder around the old streets in the city centre (The Shambles)

York Minster

You could do this - will take you about 3 hours

DuringDinnerMints · 24/02/2025 19:33

Ghost tours

Chocolate making at the cocoa house

Crazy gold at Hole in Wand

Art Gallery

Yorkshire Museum

There are usually plenty of classes and workshops on if you like that sort of thing. Check out SPARK, Sewcialising and Barley Hall

As for eating, I'd recommend the shambles market for quick food on the go, Bruks cafe for traditional homemade lunches and any of the amazing tea houses for cake, there are loads to choose from.

Ambiente on Fossgate for tapas
Ate O'Clock for good food at at a reasonable price.

We are going in March and were advised that the Jorvik Center is a waste of money and time if you are adult only.

We plan the Minster (been before but that was with an 8 year old), a Ghost Tour, lots of walking around.

The Castle Museum is really good. If you have time to spare, we did a trip to Castle Howard and that was quite nice.

We ate here last time, you need to book a table though:

We went a couple of days before Guy Fawkes Night and found it appropriate.

Sorry, but I disagree about the Jorvik comments! It's a really good, immersive way, to learn about the history of the city.

BIWI · 25/02/2025 10:34

... and Trip Advisor would agree!

That was my thread last month. it may all depends if you have children with you and your general knowledge about the time period.
but based on the replace decided to skip it.

We had a couple of nights at the Guy Fawkes Inn. Right by the Minster, tiny bar, but good beers. The rooms were very good and the food was good too. The steak pie was up with the best.

Lots of good ideas have already been provided. We have done and thoroughly enjoyed a guided walking tour by the York Association of Voluntary Guides, Hole in Wand Mini Golf, Evensong service at York Minster (I wasn't interested in the tour), Clifford's Tower, York Castle Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre, The Shambles, and visits to the Luxury Ice Cream Company.

Malton is a lovely foodie town for a trip away from York (direct trains).

https://www.abrecksaway.co.uk/ These are great places to stay of you don't mind using the P&R to get into York

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/02/2025 21:29

Who is going? 2 adults??

This is massively left field, but the Cold War Bunker is fascinating. Along with the glorious views from the top of Clifford's Tower it's worth English Heritage membership.

Cosgriff & Son bakery opposite Clifford's Tower sells amazing Brad, croissants, sweet and savoury bread based snacks. They are open Thursday-Sunday until 3pm.

Obvs meant "amazing bread", although I know a pretty good Brad too. He doesn't live in York though!!
