Do we need a car in Es Cana, Ibiza?

We've booked a holiday to Es Cana in July following some recommendations here.
We have a 5 year old so just wondering if we'll need a car and the best things for us to do whilst there for a week.

Thanks 🙂

Probably not, but there isn't much to do in Es Cana. It's lovely and quiet though

There's the market, which kills a few hours, lovely beach and .....

There is a bus though so you can go to other resorts.

You won’t need a car to get around Es Cana, the local bus service is brilliant, but we nearly always hire a car in Ibiza, just to get around the rest of the island, which is beautiful

No you definitely won't need a car. Can walk or get the bus to the hippy market, and the island is small you can bus around to other places if you like. Ibiza town is well worth a visit at night. Enjoy

We went there last year. You absolutely do not need a car. We used taxis to get everywhere we wanted to go. The hotel we stayed at called us a taxi and then wherever we went had loads of taxis all over the place to bring us back. There are also little jetty’s on the various beaches so you can get a boat from one beach to another - we used this to get from Cala Pada to Santa Eulalia etc. I think the only reason a car would be useful is if you wanted to get to some very remote little beach somewhere but all the main ones are very accessible.

Agree no need for a car. There's a water taxi to Santa Eulalia and Ibiza town and it also goes to a local island depending on what pass you buy. There's also a "train" that drives between towns and beaches which is quite nice rather than getting a usual bus.

@Pigeonqueen what were your highlights or must do's? We're going for a well needed rest but also love our DS experiencing new things

The buses are pretty good with a very regular bus to santa Eulalia and Ibiza town.

You can also walk along the coastal path in each direction but we found the bit near Es Cana in the Santa Eulalia direction was quite eroded so not what you'd want to do with a 5 YO, we're experienced hikers and were on the verge of turning back or diverting through someone's garden to the road.

There's also less frequent buses to other parts of the island or like a PP suggests you could use taxis. I think I remember seeing taxi ranks with price lists so you know what to expect. So a few buses and a taxi trip or two are likely to be cheaper and less stress than a hire car.

The water taxi or excursion boats to Formentor might also be worth it but I don't know how you get around when there - it's to far to walk across but I don't know what is near the jetty or what transport is available.

No! We use the buses and taxis. They also have a land train that does a few tours around the island which I'd recommend.

Es Cana beach is lovely and mostly very calm. There is another beach, Cala Nova that is stunning it about a ten minute walk but it have serious undercurrents and waves so might not be great for a 5 year old.

Where are you staying?

Formentera is a long day out, it's stunning but there is not much shade around and people get around by bike. Some great restaurants.

We just enjoyed hopping between the various beaches. Ds aged 12 at the time has autism and so we tried to avoid busy areas. He loved the beach at Santa E for swimming and they have some lovely restaurants along the beach front. We also really enjoyed a trip to the Hippy Market - we walked there from our beach at Cala Pada (we stayed at Tui Magic Life Cala Pada). We probably didn’t do as much as other people might have done, we mainly just enjoyed swimming in the sea and eating nice food. There’s a really lovely seafood restaurant actually “on” the beach at Cala Pada and Ds loved it so much we went there 3 times during the week (!)
