Travelling with baby when we have different passports?

I am British but I currently live abroad with my husband and baby. My husband is American and, for a few reasons, it was better to apply for her US passport first.

I am planning on applying for her British passport as soon as we have her American passport back but we're still waiting. It doesn't look like we will be able to get her British passport before our travel plans.

I am planning on taking our baby back to the UK to visit family, without my husband, and I'm wondering if the different passports will cause us any problems?

Also, I know that US citizens have to apply for a visa now? Is that the case for my baby? Or is she fine without one because she has birthright citizenship?

We are getting a letter with permission for me to take baby out of the country, without my husband, so that's not an issue.

Thank you for any advice!

I did with DD and they didn't care as long as I had her BC, passport and a permission letter. We all have dual but travel on different passports sometimes.

Not USA though.

I think you will need the visa, many airlines will check before allowing you to board.

You would probably beOK at the border / passport control, but it might be unpleasant for a while. I would wait until you have the British one too, I think.

Thank you, that's good to know!

Thank you! I will apply for the visa. I guess there is no harm in getting one, even if she doesn't need it.

Unfortunately, this will be our only opportunity to travel home for a long time so we need to do it now. Really keen for my family to meet DD!

I've travelled with a baby and different passport issuing country. , UK and Australia. No probs. Baby will need a visa if required on US passport, birthright is irrelevant.

I was nearly stopped boarding a plane to a country I was born in because I was travelling on a UK passport without correct visa.....

Thank you! Will definitely apply for visa then!

Remember once she does have her British passport she must always enter the UK on it, rather than the American one.
