Therme Spa Bucharest - is it nice or it is like a centreparks pool?

Just wondering if Therme Spa is worth visiting for a weekend? here
Or is it like going to a big indoor pool here in the UK, crowded and nothing special?

Go during the week. It can get busy, it is really nice but don't visit on weekends or public holidays.

Nevertrustacop · 19/02/2025 10:00

I loved it as an experience, not really very relaxing, but fun to be there. Go mid week if you can, the big pools can be busy with big groups at the weekend.

LynetteScavo · 19/02/2025 10:42

I recently read a poor review by someone who went for a day tripon a weekend and didn't enjoy it at all. They said they spent a total of £400 for two people, and would rather have stayed in the UK. It put me off. I think if I was 21, young free and single I might go for the experience.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 19/02/2025 12:14

thanks all.
I really don't like dealing with changing rooms at local pools or at places like centre parks.

Sounds like during the week may be a bit better but are the group therapy sessions any good? Is it weird being in a sauna that fits 40?

I've heard it isn't worth the hype, but that's not personal experience. If you can afford it, Nirvana Spa in Berkshire is incredible. Not exactly an exotic holiday location 😂, but the spa itself is lovely! Expensive, but worth every penny IMO.

jesper1 · 19/02/2025 18:54

Have been and it's actually an amazing place
Go in the week and go early, so much quieter
We flew stayed at a hotel for 2 nights and went to the spa for less than a day pass to Nirvana(amazing place but over priced (

Didn't want to start another thread but wanted to know if you went OP? What did you think if so? Can't decide if it's worth doing for half a day.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 08/10/2025 19:20

Not OP but saw this in active. I’ve been and loved it. We did a long time in there. Waterpark with slides plus pool bar and heavenly saunas etc. we went on a Monday in winter. It was still quite busy but not too bad. From what I hear, it’s not even worth going at the weekend. There’s a hotel there too.

YouForgotToTurnItOff · 08/10/2025 19:26

Thanks @ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler. It would be me and DD so I don't know if I would use the bar but she would probably like the slides. Did you stay or get a taxi from Bucharest? Just saw another thread saying someone got ripped of by taxi on the way!

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 08/10/2025 19:29

We hired a car. Company was something like klaswagen or similar. They collected us from the airport. We then drove to another town after. Kids aren’t allowed past a gate into the actual spa bit. How old is DD? We didn’t stay in the hotel. We got an Airbnb. I wouldn’t do that again as it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Hotel looked lovely

YouForgotToTurnItOff · 08/10/2025 19:47

She is 14. It's just the 2 of us so not sure if I can go in with her? It might not be worth it if not.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 08/10/2025 21:19

@YouForgotToTurnItOffhttps://www.therme.ro/rules-regulations looks like 14 is the min age tbh so you should be ok

YouForgotToTurnItOff · 08/10/2025 21:21

Ah thanks, I didn't find that bit!

FeatheryFlorence · 08/10/2025 21:35

Lived in Romania for years and a frequent visitor to Therme, here! Go in the week. Mondays are quiet. Weekends, especially in summer, are hell. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but you needed to be over 16 to access the two adult areas - Palm and Elysium. I used to stick to Palm as not a fan of saunas. The beach area outside in the summer is nice and less busy than inside. The pools with the swim up bars are great, and the food is generally good.

It is super clean, the changing rooms are all private, you have lockers, which you access with a wristband and you also use this to get drinks and food.

Therme stays open late and we would sometimes go for a few hours after work to de stress. The massages are good, but if you want one, book on arrival, as they get booked up quickly.

You can get an Uber or Bolt there, and I’d do this rather than get a regular yellow taxi. That said, Cristaxi are reliable and I never got ripped off with them. You can do the same on the way back, or get a taxi via the machine in the foyer, which gives you the number of your taxi.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/10/2025 21:36

This must be the place one of my colleagues is going to in a couple of weeks. I was very surprised when she said she was going to Bucharest.

FeatheryFlorence · 08/10/2025 21:37

I wouldn’t go for a weekend specifically to visit Therme, I think I would stay in U.K. They are building one near Manchester so if you wait a couple of years, you can go there.

We went as a family of 5 at Halloween. They are strict with ages. We had tried booking our under age child in, but they didn't believe she was old enough so she was only allowed in the slides part. Drinks aren't really cheap but TBF not overpriced either. We didn't eat there but it wasn't cheap imo. We arrived within an hour of opening and there were no inside beds left in the slides part (galaxy?) but we got an outside one which was fine then left the kids and spent most of our time in the sauna section. You need to be quick to get the special saunas. We weren't but it didn't spoil the day. There's nothing like this local to us and we did this day as part of a 5 day trip.

FeatheryFlorence · 08/10/2025 21:39

I also wouldn’t stay nearby - stay in a boutique hotel in the centre and get a taxi there. This gives you the advantage of being able to see something of Bucharest and also the choice of where to have dinner.

YouForgotToTurnItOff · 08/10/2025 22:14

Yes we've got a hotel booked and a few things we'd like to see but only there a short while. Any other Must Sees always worth hearing about though!

Oblomov25 · 08/10/2025 22:18

We didn't end up going. It seemed too commercialised. Not like other spa's we 've been to in capital cities.

I would suggest a visit to Ceausescu’s house in Primavara, in the north of the city. There is an excellent Italian restaurant close by, called Fior di Latte, for lunch. Also visits to some tiny art museums: the Storck museum, the Theodor Aman museum, and the Zambaccian, which is much bigger, but not overwhelming. A quick walk round the sleazy old town. A trip to the Parliament Palace if you have time.

Is the Old Town sleazy? I haven't been before so didn't know this before booking a Questo which is a walking tour around there - is it maybe not suitable for a 14yo? I don't really want to be hanging about in dodgy areas if the men are, um, handsy or intense.

Thanks for the other recommendations. We have a trip to Bran castle booked in. The Italian food will be a big hit.

FeatheryFlorence · 09/10/2025 22:08

It is sleazy, yes. There’s one sign that says “Sometimes love is worth paying for”, and several others that make it clear what is on offer. Lots of stag parties. Don’t be lured into any of the burger joints. If you want to eat there, or go for a drink, go to Hanul lui Manuc or Aubergine. The men aren’t handsy, it just feels grim. Does your trip to Bran also include Brasov and/or Peles and Pelisor castles? Bran can be a bit disappointing. Brasov is my favourite place (I studied there years ago). See if you can get lunch at La Ceaun on the Piața Sfatului.

FeatheryFlorence · 09/10/2025 22:08

@YouForgotToTurnItOffa walking tour should be fine.

We went to sinaia. we drove but it is a straight road and I managed it so you could try. Sure there are other ways.

they have mountain cars (don’t run on a Tuesday) a 14th century (?) church in a cave, a guided tour of peleș castle is a must see. Only other thing I saw in Bucharest was the shopping centre.
