Where to stay on London tube line for easy access?

Can anyone help please. We are a group of friends from all over the country who meet annually to near one of our home towns. That person is responsible for booking hotels and organising things to do. We all pay our way but like to keep a fairly tight budget.

All of the others are from northern areas and as I am nearest to London they all thought a trip to the big smoke is in the cards this year. It's for me to organise but I don't live in London so not sure of good areas. They will all travel by train.

London hotels are expensive at any time of year (we're thinking September). So I wondered if staying somewhere reasonable near good tube links would work? Happy with premier inn type hotels. The Hotel needs to be easy walking distance to tube stop and straightforward trip into tourist area of London like Covent Garden or south bank?
Any ideas please?

Are they coming into King's X? Can't beat the Prem inn there or the hub

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2025 17:32

Another vote for the Premier Inn Hub in Kings Cross - or the one in Marylebone is good too and usually cheaper than the KC one.

FartyPrincess · 17/02/2025 17:33

Premier Inn Hub (there is also one in Westminster) or stay somewhere like Richmond and get the tube in.

ThimbleT · 17/02/2025 17:40

Are you sharing rooms? If so there is a Travelodge near King’s Cross that does twin rooms. I’ve also stayed at the Premier Inn near Smithfield/St Bart’s, and that has really good bus and tube links to King’s Cross and central London.

Which station(s) will they be coming into? It would be sensible to pick a Tube line with a direct connection.

MoodySky · 17/02/2025 17:58

The Travelodge in Covent Garden is a great location and newly refurbished.

Anywhere on the Elizabeth Line is good for getting into central London.

They are travelling from different parts of the country so not sure they will all come into the same station.

They probably won't want to pay more than £100 per night per room so would like to find an option somewhere on the outskirts but easy commuting into town. Thank you

We always stay out by the Excel centre, usually Crowne Plaza Docklands. It’s a few minutes walk to the Elizabeth Line. We don’t really mind the extra travel, it’s worth it for the better hotel prices. We use the DLR from there up to Canary Wharf too sometimes for eating out.

Also look at University Rooms: accommodation in university halls of residence. Lots of different locations and types of accommodation.

Premier inn earls court is a good location. 2 mins walk to the tube.

In Zone 3 there's a new Travelodge in Wimbledon about two minutes walk from the station. Very good public transport from there - trains to Waterloo and District Line tube.

addictedtotheflats · 17/02/2025 20:55

How many of you? Have you considered an airbnb, usually much cheaper than hotels

BnmLK · 17/02/2025 20:56

Also agree with the Premier Inn by Kings Cross (York Way). Stayed there at the start of January and thought it was good and also convenient location wise.

Loads of restaurants within easy walking distance.

You will struggle to get a Premier Inn in central London for less than £100.
Are any of the friends willing to share? If you request an extra single in the room, they make up the sofa bed - I can sleep on that with no issues for just one night.

Or try Z Hotels - they are a bit cheaper, especially if you become a member (no charge for that). There is a very handy one at Holborn.
The rooms are small, but have everything you need, and again are fine for one night.

The Premier Inns at St Pancras or Euston are 5 to 10 mins walk from Kings Cross and are usually cheaper than the Kings Cross Premier Inn. It's a great location and will be near the stations for northern people. Loads of bars and restaurants around there and you can walk into Soho etc in 30 mins.

Also try Old St Premier Inn. Otherwise Bankside is on the river. If you book a twin room you usually get a room with a double bed and a single bed.

scissy · 17/02/2025 22:18

Earls Court Premier Inn is 2 mins from the Tube station (prob 5 if you're wheeling cases!).
It was cheaper (and had rooms available) than the other Central London Premier Inns listed above when I booked it for late November last year, albeit quite last minute.

SeLHopeful2024 · 17/02/2025 22:22

Premier inn Hampstead may be an option.
Recently done out with quite a nice baar area.
Easy bus ride from Paddington or King's Cross St Pancras (even a walk along the canal is possible and nice).
Northern line tube makes access to central London easy, and any one coming into London bridge or Waterloo are also on a direct tube.

Price does vary due to the dynamic pricing, but I've often booked rooms which have been very affordable when my mum was visiting.

potplantpurveyor · 18/02/2025 03:53

There's also the premier inn on talgarth Rd. It's a lot cheaper than more central ones but only 2 tube stops further out than Earl's court. It's a 3-5 min walk from the tube and is only a couple of years old. Also right next to a small shopping mall with Tesco express, pub, bakery etc.

If it’s easily September then LSE accommodation is open to the pubic. It’s university halls so it is what it is, but the bed was comfy and the breakfast, which is included in the price, was great! We stayed early September last year and it was less then half the price of the travel lodge next door. We stayed in high Holborn which was super convenient for everything we wanted to do.
