I don't understand the first sentence but I preferred Krakow to Berlin.

Both incredible

I did Berlin before Christmas and there was loads to see and do.

Never been to Krakow though.

What sort of things does your teenager like? Both cities are great for a weekend - but Krakow is more mediaeval with option of Salt Mines and Auschwitz. Berlin is more modern - shops and boat trips and the roof of the Reichstag is not to be missed - you need to pre-book.

Loved them both - DC were roughly 6 and 9 for Berlin - we did Krakow without them but DD has been with her boyfriend (in their early 20s).

Both are amazing places, steeped in history. Berlin has great parks and outdoor areas and the river cruise round the Bundestag is amazing - they also showed a historical movie outdoors down by the river. There is the big TV tower which shows both the east and west sides once you are up the tower. I was totally fascinated by the history and the realisation that so much awful stuff was happening there fairly recently.

Krakow has the day trip to in Auschwitz and Birkenau which is also fascinating but quite hard going. Krakow has a lovely small city-centre area which is beautiful at night time and has more of a “holiday” feel about it.

The issue for me would be the ages of your DC. The 1 year old is obvs too young to know what’s happening but you’ll have to transport them around. Auschwitz might be too upsetting for a 14 year old but you know your own child.

If I’m brutally honest, at those ages I’d probably go to centre parcs or the canaries though! But as I say, you know your own family and their likes and dislikes.

Let us know what you decide!

I suspect that the 1 year old might in fact be 10 years old, and the OP hit the Shift key by mistake when typing the zero and got a right parenthesis instead.

I thought there was a lot more to do in Berlin. Krakow is scenic, but unless you want to go to Auschwitz for the day I didn't think there wasn't a huge amount to do.

Caspianberg · 13/02/2025 20:02

Berlin

Krakow is lovely. But if your not doing Auschwitz then it’s only really 2 days max to fill and a lot of that is walking and history, or just enjoying the food.

Berlin has a lot more variety, museums, activities etc for teens to enjoy. Do Krakow in a few more years

1 or 10 - too young for Auschwitz and that would mean only one could go with the 14 year old. Krakow is good then for a short break.

We did Berlin with DD last Summer, 6 days with one day to Potsdam to go to Schloss Sancoussi and we took it easy as DH felt unwell for 2 days.

Lots to do and see.

I've been to both, Berlin with little kids and Krakow pre-kids, I'm assuming your kids are 14 and 10. Krakow has the salt mine and a beautiful old town, the youngest is probably a bit young for Auschwitz. Berlin has lots do, we went Friday to Monday and could have done with an extra day, but you can certainly see a lot in 3 days.
