Can anyone recommend anywhere they have stayed in Malta? It's for two women at the end of March. We'd like a beach and some nice food, not fussed about nightlife. Thanks!

Valetta is beautiful but no beach however public transport is very easy so you can get to beaches. The bigger hotels have pools.

Another Valletta fan, but it's not near a beach at all. The only hotel options by a beach are the Radisson Blu at Golden Sands or db seabanks at Mellieha, the first one is not really near anything else. There are other hotels in Mellieha that probably give more restaurant/bar options but are further from the beach. The only beach we went to was Ramla Bay on Gozo, we stayed in Victoria (on Gozo) and took an Uber back and forth to the beach. Malta doesn't really have great beaches, and the weather may or may not be beach temperatures in late March. We were there for 10 days end of March last year, mostly for sightseeing, but it was 25 degrees on Easter Sunday and we spent the afternoon on Ramla beach, but it had been quite windy in the week before that, maybe around 20 degrees but kind of weather where jumpers are on and off.

If you want a nice beach I would go somewhere else. The beaches on Malta are mostly pebbly and generally not great.

I enjoyed valleta and Gozo but neither are beachy !

It may not be beach weather in march
My best friend went in April last year and froze in the cold winds

partystress · 13/02/2025 06:57

It was cold and windy in early April when I went. Valletta and the Medina are both beautiful for looking around, but it’s not somewhere I would rush back to, especially not for a beach/ flop holiday.

Agree with all the above, sightseeing yes laid back beach holiday no.

Malta in March has an average high of 17° so a bit chilly for the beach. Public transport is good so you can really stay anywhere except the far south. St Paul's Bay is fairly central for Valletta, Gozo, Rabat etc and you can bus to Mgarr for a beach.

Malta is lovely but it's coastline is mostly rocky not sandy. It also won't be particularly warm in March.

We stayed at Ax Odycy, really nice, but not much I Qawra

BigDahliaFan · 13/02/2025 15:11

Personally I'd go to Malaga....Better beaches. Valetta is lovely - but there's not much else - especially in March if the weather isn't great. At least in Malaga you've got options..

A friend of mine lives in St Julians. It's brilliant for restaurants, night life and on the coast.

Have stayed in Malta in April many years ago and sat by the pool but the locals were all in thick coats. Malta is nice but maybe not a beach destination if this is what you most desire. I would go in April if poss if you want to sunbathe but maybe go elsewhere if beaches are important.
