cheap UK break

hello,
looking to take 6 month old on a UK break, probably just a weekend away. I'm on SMP so need to make it cheap as chips and ideally not a huge distance from home. I live pretty much on the Trafford centre doorstep for reference so cornwall for example would be too far.
Any recommendations on websites to look on/places to stay? air bnb was always my go to but seems to have got crazy expensive!

When are you planning to go? I'd avoid half term which is coming up!
Going mid-week or say Sunday/Monday can be cheaper than a weekend.
Travelodge can be reasonable value. Or a caravan site might have off season deals.

stripemarshmallow · 09/02/2025 09:59

definitely not half term! pretty flexible on dates, i'm thinking an apartment might be a little better as self catering would also save us some money, caravan would also work!

Ribby Hall

If out of school holidays then a caravan can be really cheap. As your dc is so young you won't need kids activities etc so what sort of thing would you like to do? Are you more looking for scenic walks or a nice town to look round museums etc?
Hoseasons is a good website for looking for cheap caravan breaks.

North Wales? Self catering or a b and b that allows you to heat baby food.

Funf · 09/02/2025 10:57

Liverpool or North Wales, both have loads to see and do for all budgets
I have found this website useful, as many are just owners renting them out and not commercial businesses

Liverpool ideas, just avoid Half Term concerts and foot ball matches, if you have a car it can be cheaper to stop slightly out of the centre.

Llandudno Conwy area is great but often cheaper accommodation to be had nearer Rhyl, Towyn areas, but both are 5 mins drive from spectacular country side

Cheap haven caravan holiday - often by the sea, often have pools etc

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/02/2025 11:16

Most caravan parks aren't open yet. When are you thinking of going?

stripemarshmallow · 09/02/2025 11:25

thanks this is so helpful!
wales sounds great and I was kind of toying with that idea already, thinking nice easy walks, pubs, maybe a gallery or museum too but not essential. probably somewhere more quiet than a city centre.
thinking march time would be good.
would a caravan be cold this time of year? I havent stayed in one since I was a teenager

Searles caravan park in Hunstanton has a nice splash pool and some of the caravans have hot tubs. There’s also a big Tesco opposite the site entrance. You could explore the north Norfolk coast from there.

bossbossbaby · 09/02/2025 12:20

In recent experience all caravans have heating so you shouldn't be cold

Funf · 09/02/2025 12:37

As above many are now well equipped for colder times of year

mitogoshigg · 09/02/2025 13:02

Look at haven in north wales. Really cheap if you don't mind an older caravan. I've stayed at hafan a mor I think it is, will be fairly quiet being term time hopefully. There's an indoor pool etc. the cheapest 4 night midweek break is £79, but the better quality caravan is £175

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/02/2025 13:06

I haven't been in a craven without hearing for years.

Funf · 09/02/2025 15:37

Hafan Y Mor is a great site some very nice places nearby but I feel you would need a car?

StScholastica · 09/02/2025 18:22

Brynteg holiday site in Conwy is lovely.
Caer Rhun hall hotel is just heavenly but a bit more expensive. They sometimes have offers via secret escapes.

StScholastica · 09/02/2025 18:27

Ooh I've thought of another!
Have you seen Innkeepers collection hotels? Part of the Miller and Carter family.
They have a nice hotel in Ambleside for around £80 to £120 per night.
