Can you recommend a family friendly Maldives island

Hi All, pre DD we went to the Maldives several times but want to head back for some winter sun at the end of the year / Jan 26. We would love to combine relaxing and playing in the sand with some kids activities / kids clubs etc. Has anyone been to an island they’d recommend? Thanks for your help 😊🙌

Few years ago we went to Kuredu and it was kid friendly and lovely.

We've been to Siyam World before and we're booked to go again next Easter. All the over water accommodation have slides going into the sea, loads of pools all over the Island, it's very child friendly.

I suspect it depends on what interests them. My DD2 would love being in the water and doing activities, DD2 would be bored as that’s not her thing. Me too I suspect. I need a bit more and sunbathing and chilling are t my thing.

The Island we're going to (Siyam World) had a specific Adults Only bar and area on the beach, it was glorious when our son (he was 11 when we first went) said he wanted to stay in the room for a bit of downtime.

A lot depends on how old your little one will be when you travel, as some kids clubs start from age 3–4 while others only take older children. It’s also worth thinking about transfer time – with children, many families prefer a speedboat ride from Malé rather than a seaplane, just for ease after a long flight.
For families, bigger islands often work best because they usually have more space to run around, several restaurants to keep meals varied, and proper kids clubs with daily activities. Some islands also add extras like splash pools, playgrounds or shallow lagoons that make beach time much easier with younger ones.
If you’re keen on snorkelling, check whether the island has its own house reef or if they offer regular boat trips out to nearby reefs. Some family-friendly resorts don’t have reefs right off the beach but do include short excursions as part of their packages.
Room choice also matters – beach villas give direct sand access which is ideal for kids, while overwater options are sometimes restricted by age. If you like the idea of a water villa with pool, many families split the stay so the kids can enjoy safe beach time first and then a few nights in an overwater villa once everyone is settled.
For a first family trip back, I’d suggest looking at the north male atoll resort area. These are generally within 15–45 minutes by speedboat, so no seaplane needed, and several have kids clubs plus multiple dining options. One option you could look at is VARU By Atmosphere, which has both beach and overwater pool villas alongside family activities. https://varu-atmosphere.com
