Palma Majorca in April

We are going to Palma for a week in April, a friend has offered us to stay in her apartment. It'll be me DH and our 5 and 3 year old. Has anyone been to palma at this time of year and any ideas of things to do with young kids? Hoping the weather will be mild enough during the day so hopefully some beach trips but looking for other things that kids might enjoy!

It depends on when in April. 312 cycling challenge, SAR sailing competition at the start of the month and international boat show at the end. Semana Santa (Easter) festival in the middle. The passion of Christ re enactment at Palma Cathedral and parades.

Weather will be generally pleasant, might have some showers. Not warm enough to swim but nice enough for a day at the beach. Will probably be a bit breezy on the beach. You will need sun cream in the day and a cardigan or light jacket in the evening.

Fantasia golf at Palma Nova is good for kids. Yours might be on the cusp of too young, I’m taking my slightly younger kids to a fun golf not far from there though.

There’s an aquarium in Palma that’s worth a visit if it’s a rainy day, or just for something to do. Marine Land isnt far away, they have dolphin shows if that’s your sort of thing, ans well as some other animals, and a nice play area. Also the train from Palma to Soller, and then the little tram down to the Port De Soller.

Not so much for kids, although it’s pretty cool the adults will definitely enjoy it more, Mercat De l’Olivar is worth a visit.

It's a beautiful city but not somewhere I'd take small kids tbh, it's more of a cathedral, museum, shopping place. You can take the train to Soller as a day trip which is fun.

It’s often delightful in april and you could spend the day on the beach or in the playgrounds or exploring. But it sometimes isn’t super warm. So bring jeans and jumpers as well as lighter items.

if You are staying in palma itself there are enjoyable playgrounds near the cathedral on the paseo, and by the gallery es baluard.

you might also visit Joan Miro’s gallery/studio

if you go there you might also enjoy Cala major beach, marivent palace or the restaurant el parada del mar.

port ixol is a pretty place to hang out, there is a good board walk along the beach. all the way to playa ciutat jardin.

April is also a lovely time to enjoy the centre of palma, it is walkable, there are lovely old buildings and pedestrian roads.
there are fancy shops to window shop in.
the passieg des borns is a nice place to let the kids stretch their legs in the evenings, often there is a bubble man or other buskers.

there is a nice playground by the by the main train station. It has playground equipment and in floor water fountains.

there is a gallery called sa llota, which is beautiful and spacious . It’s also near a square that is popular to eat.

If you visit castel belver there is a good playground on the hill near there.
under the pine trees.

You could go to the aquarium, or the caves drac, you could visit binnisalem on the train- it’s a central village, with a lovely square a chilled vibe.
or you could get the wooden train to soller (make sure you take a coat for the train, as when it’s in the shade it gets cold)
but solller is quite a big day trip by train. Although lovely.

Yes, I think the train to Soller will be a good trip and then onto the beach at Port Soller - I think the advice is to get the normal bus back as there aren't that many trains in the afternoon.

There will be green spaces in and around the city that include children's play park areas so look out for those.

The Sóller train is cannily priced so that by the time you've bought a single on the train and the tram, the return only adds 4 or 5 Euros. There are enough trains to get everyone back. One tip for the train is to get to the station just as one train leaves so you are first in the queue for the next one. Then when they let you on, get the fittest member of the party to run to the front carriage (just behind the engine) and bagsy the seats in the old first class section - these days they're first come first served, and so much more comfortable than the wooden seats further back.

Palma Aquarium is a world-class attraction with an easy bus ride from town, but not especially cheap. See if you can get off-peak or advance tickets.

Take the kids to the castle, and also to Genova caves (much easier than trekking out to Drach). Stop at a cafe for churros with hot chocolate. If the kids want plain/beige food one time, look for a local chain called Skalop, which does breaded pork/chicken cutlets with chips in a casual dining setting for very good prices.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, I know it's not really a child holiday but didnt want to pass up the opportunity so will be making the most of it anyway. It's only our second holiday abroad so just trying to get the most out of it. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

We are also going to Palma at the end of April, no kids for us though, so we are definitely going to be doing all the sights and beautiful architecture.
