Planning a holiday to Europe, and I’d love to take my 2 yr old granddaughter with us, my son & daughter in law are excited to have a week alone, at home, and I’m so looking forward to it, what are the rules on me doing this ? She has her own passport, and is a frequent flyer, so no issues there, but I did read somewhere that I need a notary to confirm I’m not taking her without her parents permission ??

there are letter templates online that you can fill in with all the details that the parents sign to say they give permission. Having a photocopy of their passports is also a good idea. Do you have the same surname as her? that would make things easier.

She has the same surname, I’ll look up the template, thanks for the info 🥰

When my sister took DD abroad, DP and I wrote and signed a letter of permission, including photocopies of both of our passports. No-one was remotely interested, but that could be down to luck.

They won't necessarily ask, but it's a good idea to have the easily obtainable evidence to hand in case you are asked. Especially with wee children.

One other thing: Do get the parents permission for medical treatment. You will have to check if you can add her to your private travel insurance or if she needs her own.
