Money not the main factor on this one. DC2 is about to go to Uni so this might be the last time we have a longer holiday as a family. 4 adults.

We are going around in circles

Hong Kong or Vietnam

user04 · 05/02/2025 11:47

Vietnam could be a good call

I should say we have done:
Cambodia
South Africa
Nile Cruise
Costa Rica
Columbia
Mexico

Sri Lanka is my go to suggestion because it really has a bit of everything, wildlife including options for both land and river safaris, cultural heritage both currently used and ruins, amazing scenery and hiking trails available, then brilliant beaches, quiet lagoons and great surfing spots ... all with great food, friendly people, English is wildly spoken and many of the taxis and tut tuts are Uber, you can even get uber eats!

We're planning a holiday to Canada when DD completes her GCSEs next year

ginslinger · 05/02/2025 14:46

Korea and Japan

thefamilyofthings · 05/02/2025 14:52

Japan.

user04 · 05/02/2025 15:11

Japan would be good but I think its the wrong time of year

not Japan in summer
what about New York and Cape Cod, Washington DC and maybe New England, California

You've been to Colombia but can't spell it!

What about a road trip through Austria, Slovenia etc. I'd love to do that but we are all into kayaking, hiking etc not sure what stuff you like

travelmadmum23 · 05/02/2025 15:21

Mauritius & Abu Dhabi

I’m not sure spelling a place name is a requirement for entry into the country

Canada would be good.

Orlando! Appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea but we're theme park enthusiasts so absolutely love it. There's more to Florida than the theme parks too.

Thailand

Agree with Canada. You could do Vancouver, Whistler, Vancouver Island, Banff all in 2-3 weeks. Alternatively you could do Quebec, with Montreal, Quebec City, some of the lakes etc. An amazing country

RitaFromTheRanch · 05/02/2025 19:03

Not Japan in summer.

Australia and Fiji.

VanCleefArpels · 05/02/2025 19:05

Before the fires I would have said US west coast road trip. However on the same theme you could do a route 66 (ish) road trip across the mid west and bring it to an end before you get to California

This is what we are thinking of doing. Bluesclues1 have you done both? Which one is best would you say?

Both are incredible - I’ve lived in Vancouver and have a lot of family in Quebec so I’m bias. I’d maybe suggest west coast as a first timer as English speaking but Vancouver/Banff are much more expensive. The flight is longer at about 11 hours.

Flight to Montreal is just 6.5-7 hours - we were there at Christmas and the flight home was 5.5 hrs! You can get an air BnB on a lake near Mont Tremblant (big ski/summer activity resort) for not a lot of money in comparison to villas in Europe - but different vibe obviously.

Also you get quite a lot of CAD for your £ at the moment so a good time to go.

I would go to Madagascar, I have been wanting to go forever, we almost went on our honeymoon and then I changed my mind and have slightly regretted it ever since!! My second choice would be a self-drive tour of Namibia. It's also a good time of year for Botswana, but the prices for that are a bit eye watering.
Someone else said Australia, it's a great time of year for the outback, cities in the South will be on the cool side though.

Vietnam is a good choice. Sapa in the north would be too wet, but central areas will be dry eg Hue and Hoi An. I have also been to Hanoi in July and had a little rain, but nothing that really affected the trip.
Borneo?
Indonesia- Bali and Java?
we were living in China before ds started at university and we did the following trip : Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi and then flew to Luang Prabang in Laos, then on to Bangkok and finally Hong Kong.
Canada would also be an excellent choice: Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Whistler?
